Hi! I'm a little new here, but I recently decided to mod an extra area to the map and I was wondering how the process would go to make this.
I'm not too sure how to add images to show where I want to do exactly, but generally, I want to remove the barriers on the edges of the map and expand them out more. How would I go on removing those barriers, and how would I add those areas in? Plus, how would the mini map work? I tried referring to the document and I got really confuzzled. ;w;' Any help or direction would be appreciated! (also, sorry if someone already asked this, just refer me to that post instead ^^)

There were similar discussions about map modification in this thread. That may help you get started. I've also written a guide for how to decorate a .region file (as in, how to put all the rocks and trees in). I haven't posted it to the forums before, but I can if that sounds like something that would help you. If you need more help, let me know.

Thank you so much! And that guide sounds really helpful if you do want to post it, but don't feel pressured to do so.

No problem! Here it is. How To Decorate A .region File The Easy Way (by using the colony editor)
- Build your tile in the in-game colony editor. Remember to leave space for any cliffs you may want to be in the tile. It is easiest to do this on a new file, since the more dens you have, the less space you have to build your tile.
- Save and exit.
- Open up the save file that you built your tile on. It should be in C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Cattails_Wildwood_Story\saves, where NAME is the name of your PC.
- Press CTRL+F and search for colony_layout. We're going to be looking at the world_objects section (that lies within the colony_layout section), but note that the colony_layout section is where you'll find the data for other parts of your colony, too (like paths).
- Copy the world_objects section and paste it into a blank Notepad file (or whatever text editor you like to use).
- To separate each item into its' own line, use this site to break lines after each occurrence of },. This is technically optional, but it makes things a lot easier to read (and thus easier to check for errors).
- Take out anything you don't want to be in your final tile, like the task board, founder's stone, mailbox, and seed maker.
- Press CTRL+H and replace uid with type.
- If you'd like, use this site to quickly add 3 tabs at the start of each line. This just makes your file look neater.
- Paste it into your tile's .region file under world_objects and save the file.
- When you built your tile in the editor, the dens and other required structures may have taken up space where you would have otherwise wanted to place objects. If there is anything you want to place in that space, do so now. To do this:
- Load the game with your mod.
- Walk to the spot where you want to place something.
- Turn on the in-game diagnostics setting.
- Note the coordinates you're standing at.
- Use the documentation to find the name of the object you want to add.
- Using the same format as the other world objects, add in a new object with the appropriate name and coordinates.

Thank you so much for this too! Quick question tho, I'm trying to remove part of the borders on the map using the "destroyer16x16" code, yet the border object remains. Specifically, I'm trying to see if I can expand past the Swamp Corner region along the bottom near the rocks and logs. Am I doing something wrong here?

You could be, it's hard to tell without seeing the code. However, I do recall trying to help someone with this before, and there was a similar issue with 16x16 not working. My guess is that it's either broken or really, really small.
Last time, using 128x128 instead worked out fine. If the gap made from that is too big for your liking, you can scooch the coordinates (and thus the center) of the destroyer outside the bounds of the tile, so only the edge clips the nearby objects. Or, you can just manually re-add anything you didn't want it to destroy.
I will mention that when I used the 128x128 destroyer, it destroyed the decorative tile below it. If the place you're working with doesn't have one, you don't have to worry about that. But if it does, you might have to manually put it back.

So here's the code I have so far and here's the area I'm trying to experiment with. The blockage is still there.

Sorry for the late reply! I was busy yesterday. But I tested out your code, and I can't seem to replicate the issue. Is there anything else you've changed in the file? Do you have any mods installed that might also change the Swamp Corner tile?

I'll see if removing all the mods I have in my mod folder and then re-adding my test map mod folder works. Thank you!

I finally got it! I was able to remove the barrier by adding the line of code to the .region file from the game resources folder instead of copying the file and adding it to a mod. Though, I couldn't get it to work otherwise.

Weird! I will admit, when I tested it, I didn't feel like setting up a whole mod so I did the same thing. Glad you worked something out, though.

You have an extra set of brackets around your world_objects section! Removing them will make the objects appear. As for the water, you can copy that data from the "water_tiles" section of the save you built it on. You'll just need to change the "type" from a number to "deep", "shallow", "swamp", etc. There's a section of the documentation that may help with that part.

Do you know if there's an issue with the spawner in a modded region? Whenever I load in a new day and check the region, the spawned grass will be there. However if I close the program and reopen it, grass and herbs won't spawn at all, or anything in the "spawner" line.
