Hello! I'm looking for guidance on how to change the names of existing NPCs. I know I've got to make a separate mod instead of altering the base game files, no worries!
I just wanna change Charlotte's display name. However, I'm not sure which files to alter. I figure it's a better idea to ask first which files to change. I'm a bit worried that if I go in alone and start changing every single mention of her name, I'll be accidentally changing and breaking all sorts of paths if I don't find and fix every little thing. Essentially, I'm trying to avoid a big ol' headache. Any help that yall could give would be helpful! I have a bit of computer knowledge, and have some extremely minimal json coding experience from making a simple stardew valley replacer mod a few years ago, so I'm not a COMPLETE newbie, but I'm still a bit rusty so more details = better! Thank you in advance!
Would anyone be able to give me a tutorial on what to change? In particular I'm looking for: - What files do I have to change, and where are they?
- Do I have to write any code to tell the game to run my altered files instead of the game's base files?

What files do I have to change, and where are they? You will need a copy of Charlotte's .lang file, found in gameresources > npcs > lang > english. Replicate this directory in your mod and copy the .lang file over. Open your copy (you can do so with any text editor). The name should be on the first line. This is all you need to change, and it won't break anything else.
Do I have to write any code to tell the game to run my altered files instead of the game's base files? Nope!

I can't seem to get the screenshot to send, but it was super easy and worked so well!!! I named her Juniper, if you were curious!
Thanks so much for your information, and I'm absolutely thrilled at how easy it was to change! Stuff was way way harder to mod in Stardew Valley, I'm thrilled that this game is so different in the best possible way!
