I love Cattails: Wildwood Story so far, but some aspects of the worldbuilding bother me immensely.
For instance:
- How are they building these immense structures? They are cats!
- Why, or how, do some of them have human names? It is heavily implied that humans are extinct or something, based on Glimmer's commentary on curios.
I tend to dwell too much on the technical aspects of stories, I think, but I was wondering if perhaps anyone else was bothered by this and would like to see it improved upon. Or, if perhaps I am simply overreacting.
I'm able to code, draw, and animate but I would not be against it being an open-source project! In fact, I'd prefer it as it would probably be a lot of work.
If anyone is interested in something like this being developed or helping with the development, please make it known!

Technical aspects of stories do bother me, though not as much for Cattails. I personally headcanon that the moles are building the cats' homes and shops and all in exchange for letting them have the mine. Nevertheless, I would be interested in worldbuilding and writing dialogue! I always like helping out.

"How are they building these immense structures?"Remember they have mole friends, they might be the ones to do the building. But before that during the intro, you have to essentially suspend your disbelief of the general idea that these are just cats and remember they are also very anthropomorphized; they can talk, use herbs without making themselves sicker, know what miasmas are, have the concept of marriage and monogamy, have an economy and money, and essentially religion with the Forest Guardian. It's not hard to envision these cats being able to build at least basic den structures when you remember this game already throws realism out the window since the first one. "Why, or how, do some of them have human names?"You could ask the same for the first game; Why do the wild cats that aren't your former pet character have human names? (Assuming you intentionally play the same character in WWS as you do the first game. I for ex didn't and instead she's the grandkit of my first game's character, who could also have a human name without explaination) Again it's a suspension of disbelief thing. IG the very simple answer is just, Cattails isn't a realistic cat game! I don't think it ever strives to be even close to it. These may be cats but they are if not even more anthropomorphized than Warrior Cats cats. Even if you meant there wouldn't be full realism it's still very much a fantasy world.

I think you should make this mod if you want too! I would love to see more natural structures and furniture in the game. I don't think I'd want to replace them all, but as added decorations or an option I can switch out it sounds great! I would love to see more natural interpretations of certain furniture items and I think others would enjoy it too.
Would be interested to know if you'd remove every trace of humans from the game, like the lanterns in the woods. Personally I like the bit of mystery they add to the world. Making a mod that leaned into the strangeness of these objects from the viewpoint of a cat would be pretty cool.
Regarding the "human" names, who's to say they are? Most of the names refer to something natural: Buttercup, Glimmer, Rosemary, Zephyr. Most of the other names have meanings a cat would understand: Coco comes from cocoa beans, Fliss comes from felicity which means happiness, Bob is a diminutive of Robert which means "bright fame", etc. Point is, these names have meanings in their original language that aren't much different from English words like Glimmer or Buttercup. Buttercup is just a word we made up to describe a flower, same as Fliss is a word we made up to describe happiness. At the end of the day, their names are just sounds, and none of them are sounds I've ever heard a cat make anyway.
Also, Glimmer's dialog does make it sound like humans are extinct, but I'm fairly certain that humans have just left the area of the Wildwood. There's really no reason to assume that humans are extinct (and how would these cats know if they were anyway?)
All in all though, I think it's an interesting project. You could absolutely mod the game to be this post-apocalyptic, human-free return-to-nature cat world if you wanted too. Could make for some really cool visual storytelling, if you decided to lean into that.

I would love a mod like this!!! I like the way more natural stuff and it feels a little weird having cats with chairs and buildings. I like the weirdness of the game but I would love to see a more naturalistic approach! Human names don't bother me too much because its possible that those names are passed down from housecats. But yes please this mod sounds very cool!
