I've always wondered of this in the back of my head, but I never put too much thought into it. But in what location, geographically, is it possible for Cattails: Wildwood Story to exist in our world? Or is there no location? I want to figure out the answer. If anyone wants to help with this theory, you are welcome to Here are the requirements so far: 1. A place that has a volcano (because of the lava in Caldera), a place with beaches, and with grasslands/forests.2. A place where all the plants and animals of Cattails live naturally. a. All commons b. All uncommons c. All rares d. All legendarysdrive.google.com/drive/folders/1SRiiqKQJhHILSfEbUlnuiwiXIkKIpUmN?usp=sharingSo, I have on the map in the google folder, eliminated all the places that are not near places with volcanic activity, with beaches, or would most likely be too cold for a colony of cats. All the locations that could be the habitat of Cattails are highlighted in the Possible Cattails Location Map. Next up is to find a place where most or all of the plants and animals of cattails live.

I know that blue jays and voles are North American animals.
And a lot of species that aren't native to North America, like peppermint and starlings were introduced and can be found there, so I would guess somewhere in North America.

As Silverhart said, bluejays and voles are native to north America and most, if not all, of the other animals can be found in North America, too. Not sure about the plant life.
(... Plus Falcon is in North America and the easiest thing to create world-building-wise is that which you are most familiar with. But that is neither here nor there.)

This is a fascinating thread! I'll start by saying that I don't think there's necessarily a "right" answer to the question, but in my head while I was developing Cattails 1 I figured it was somewhere in fictional New England (northeastern USA.) I tried to pick plants and animals that live in that area but I never stuck too diligently to that "rule" if I liked an option that I couldn't justify.

I like to think it's just a unnamed fantasy location. Allows for a whole lot more flexibility in terms of what's there.

I like to think it's just a unnamed fantasy location. Allows for a whole lot more flexibility in terms of what's there. Of course. After all, don't think anyone has encountered a spectral Lion called the Forest Guardian. Nonetheless, it is fun and educational in trying to figure out where in the real world games are inspired by. For example, in the case of Cattails, doing so encourages learning what parts of the world certain animals live in or certain plants grow.

Oooo! I didn't consider the Forest Guardian being a lion, but that brings up an interesting point. Perhaps the Spirit Guardian is in fact an ancient American cave Lion? The Guardian is very large in the game, and American cave lions were one of the largest species of cat that we know of.

The Guardian is very large in the game, and American cave lions were one of the largest species of cat that we know of. I originally guessed that the Forest Guardian was a lion due to their size as well as their body shape being similar to a female lion. Also the lack of distinctive markinga that most other commonly known big cats, bar the panther, are famous for. I hadnct considered the American cave lion due to them being extinct, but as the Forest Guardian is more than happy to tell you, they are, in fact, a spirit. Nothing is stopping them from taking the form of an extinct species.

I have a theory/headcannon that cattails takes place after all the humans have gone extinct and the cats have evolved to have thumbs. XD

Right so honestly though you have crossed it out, what narrows down the search is the presence of the persistent lava lake at the caldera which is an extremely rare phenomenon. Currently there are only 6 volcanoes which have near persistent to persistent lava lakes. Mount Erebus (Ross Island, Antarctica), Erta Ale (Ethiopia), Kīlauea (Hawa'ii), Nyiragongo aka the largest one (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Ambrym (Malampa Province of Vanuatu), and Mount Michael (Saunders Island, South Sandwich Islands). None of these locations would lead to a four season structure that we see in the game as they are subarctic, arctic, tropical, or subtropical due to the fact that many of these are islands. However, if we look through history I do see one volcano that has a climate and a lava lake that we are looking for. Mount Etna (Sicily, Italy, 1974) is in a typical Mediterranean climate, along with having the columns of basalt that we see in game nearby on the Cyclopean Isles and along the Alcantara river. So going off the geology and climate that would be my best guess.
But seriously, look up lava lakes they are very cool. Here is a picture of the Nyiragongo lava lake.
This is of course done by google searching, so take this information as you will.

Hmm, that's a good point there. To be fair, with the newest version, we now have a small desert next to the caldera, but I will admit, didn't know that about the lava lakes. Neat!

Well, to add more to the geography, we now have a mountain and a very viney old farm. So, our colony appears to be in or just west of the foothills to a mountain range with a volcano (with a persistent lava lake, though I wonder where we might be if we remove the persistent lava lake part and just leave it at volcano caldera.

wait I got it it takes place on Pangaea, but like Pangaea 2 in the future where the cats have had time to evolve thumbs. However I think Sicily can still fit most bills.
