Can someone explain how hunting in this game works a bit? Like the controls and such. For some reason I'm really struggling with it compared to Cattails (2017), I've only caught like one animal (not counting insects that you can just slash).

I bet you've figured it out by now, but in case you haven't and for the benefit of anyone else who finds this thread, I'll answer anyway! So first, you press your Sneak button. On the keyboard this is Shift by default, and on a controller it's Left Trigger. Your cat will crouch down and get an eye with a slash through it over their head to indicate they're being stealthy. Around the edges of the screen, bubbles will appear to indicate the locations of prey (unless they're onscreen already). At first they'll be question marks; once you've caught a prey once, you'll remember their scent and be able to see what prey is there in the scent bubble. Once you get close, an indicator will appear around the prey. While you're facing them, it'll light up, and while it's lit up, a circle indicating their awareness will slowly fade in and out of view. You can use this to get as close as possible, which will make it more likely for you to catch your prey. Get close enough, and you'll get a Perfect pounce, which if you're using the Quick Time hunting mode, will widen the zone you need to click in to succeed. If the prey is hostile and will attack you, the indicator around it will be reddish in color and they'll have an angry face over their head while you sneak. There are a couple hunting modes found in the Accessibility settings. One is Quick Time, the game's default, which requires you to click on time inside a moving bar. Another is Coin Toss, which skips the minigame and gives you a random chance of success, like in the first game. Finally, there is Immersive, which is the same as Coin Toss but which hides the prey's circle of awareness- this is the closest to the first game overall. Lastly I think the Difficulty setting of the game affects how hard hunting is. Here's a video from the dev on the subject!

Lastly I think the Difficulty setting of the game affects how hard hunting is. The bar that moves back and fourth is slower in the easier modes, can confirm. Since in videos it's faster I assume it's normal difficulty there.
