How to get only two kits???

Hey! So I just got asked by my mate, Claw, if I wanted kits and I said, "Yes, of course!"
But I have a question. Is there any way to get only two kits? I've tried in other save files, but I end up getting only one or three, sometimes even four! I know that if you want four, you have to give gifts to your spouse daily, but is there a certain amount I could give a day or so to get only two kits?

On my first save, I only talked to my spouse- no gifts- and only got 2 kittens. I haven't tested it in a while though, so I could be wrong lol. Good luck!
