So I had the idea to do a challenge run where you had to complete the main quest without actually catching any prey. The only things you can’t buy are sea bass and squirrels, so I’m wondering if anyone knows if these items can be received as gifts from friends or as rewards for completing tasks? Please let me know!

The task board might award you some of the items you need.

It seems you can get gray squirrels from both the board and Sarge, but not brown ones. I forget if the main quest cares about color or not. Sea Bass should be obtainable from the board as well.
I think Mango and Sunshine can give you squirrels, but of course that's a problem because you'd need to complete the quest first.
This is harder with squirrels because they run up trees, but its technically POSSIBLE to get a squirrel by making enemy cats kill it. Or, though this would take forever, you could get a kitten and make the kitten catch it. In both cases, technically you didn't hunt it, but it'd really depend on how strict your rules are.
