Hi all,
My girlfriend plays this game primarily and recently spoke of her wish for more content in this game, along with some minor dialogue fixes, etc.
I decided to take a look into modding (no previous experience) and I believe it can be done. This game was created with Game Maker, which is the engine that made another game called Undertales, which has a fairly active community. As it happens, that game has a tool that allows you to view sprites, game objects, code, etc. of Game Maker data.win files, and it does work on Cattails.
I have already been able to locally mod some of the game, changing mainly dialogue and other text based attributes and some changes to prey span, etc.
I also think I have found another Undertales tool that could work as a Mod Patcher, potentially meaning any created mods can be shared as modular items (this has many many advantages over sharing overly large data.win files including avoiding copyright & piracy issues).
That being said, making content is more difficult than changing dialogue and graphic changes. I am way out of depth with that including in creating/editing sprites (although I am learning more everyday, I am not an artist). I could use help with mod ideas (both to fix ongoing issues & new content ideas) as well as help with figuring out the mod system that could work for anyone to build their own mods upon. I made a thread at the cattailsgame subreddit asking for similar help, so if you want, please contact me through reddit! I will periodically check this thread as well for ideas and other discussions.

I can think of plenty of things this game could have expanded upon. One thing, we have a very limited selection of den decorations. It'd be cool to have extra carpet colors. Or heck, a mod that just changes what the already-existing carpet's color is.
For another thing, no matter if you live in the Mountain Colony cave, the Mystic Colony tree stump, or the Forest colony bush, the interior of the den looks like you live in forest colony. I know it's probably because all of the dens share the same map ID, but some mods that change the internal look of the dens to make them better fit other colony styles would be nice.
As for editing pre-existing content, I've always felt that the summon allies skill takes *entirely* too long to recharge. something like 450 seconds at default. I'd love to have that reduced by half.
