I want to know as in like best layout. space, surrounding tiles, structures. Where did you choose, why, and how did it turn out?

There are a lot of tiles to pick from, so it's hard to say which is the "best". I'd say it depends a lot on your priorities. Want a lot of space? You might want to pick a location in the plains, around the top left or middle right areas of the map. Want something more scenic? Maybe find a tile with something you think looks cool (like the Graveyard, the Weepingroot, Fairywood, etc). Want a bunch of shells and sea bass? Live near the sea. Personally, I've made colonies at Shady Corner, Central Lake, Fairywood, and somewhere in the Highlands (I forgot the name of the tile lol). I chose most of these cause I thought they looked cool; most of them have some sort of noticeable feature that sets them apart from the others (such as the colored rocks at Fairywood). All of these tiles worked out pretty well. My biggest complaint would be long walks for ones like the Shady Corner one, but temple warp kinda solves that problem. Here are some more things to consider when picking a capital, put under a spoiler because it got kinda long. Other things I would take into consideration is distance to other important locations and prey spawns. I usually avoid making colonies really close to other ones, but you might choose to instead make your colony really close to another for easy access or something. You probably don't want to be really really far from other colonies, though, since it'll be a really long walk if you find yourself needing to visit them. You'll also want to consider things like the mines and temple.
Then there's prey spawns. Rabbits spawn in the northeast, frogs, toads, and birds are common in the south, and things like mice and squirrels are most common in the forest to the east. You'll only find saltwater fish at the beach. And, of course, you'll find more fish where there's more water. This is also true for herbs, more or less. Herbs have a more even distribution, but snake lily only spawns in the marsh. You might want to consider which prey (and maybe herbs) you want to have readily available, whether it's because it sells well or another cat likes it or it's good food or whatever. Remember when picking a location that claiming an area as your capital will remove all prey spawns from that tile (does not effect herbs).
However, one thing to remember is that if a certain type of prey is uncommon in the area around your colony, you just have to walk a little further to get it. For example, if you were looking for a sea bass and you lived in the forests around Forest Colony, all you would have to do to find one is walk a few tiles down to get to the beach. With warps, this can be even faster. This is exactly why I pretty much only choose based on the look of an individual tile. Overall, to answer your question, there is no "best" layout. If you wanted something like "best for hunting" you might want to live in the north, where there's lots of rabbits, which are good food. If you want a tile that's generally pretty close to everything, live near the center. But there are no locations that are bad for hunting per se, and most long walks can be remedied by warps. That's why I usually find it best to just pick the tiles I think look cool. Sorry for being long-winded lol. Hope this answered your question.

I picked mine to be the one directly to the right of Rumbling Overpass and did NOT get a locked area next to it.
I suggest picking one near the beach, for instance Beach East is a nice one...
But I agree with Catsquid. Really I kind of think it depends on what kind of FOOD you LIKE. For instance, if you wanted Mice I'd go with something closer to the forest and farther from the beach. If you wanted Doves I'd say that a Beach is definitely good for you... (And a nice little Island hee hee.)
