I was playing Cattails yesterday after taking a break from the game, and while selling some catnip, the question dawned on me.
Why is Catnip so good?
There is no logical reason for it. Out of all the herbs by itself, it doesn't nothing but make you high. Why would you give someone 15 Mews for a herb that does nothing for you when you could get ones that heal or feed you, or give you speed? Now you may be saying "Well, my mate likes it, so that why I like it." But why? For the same reason as above, you're mate is getting nothing from this herb. It is useless. Yes, you can sell it for 15 mews, but again, if were being logical, it wouldn't sell for that much. "Well, it's hard to find, so that why is valuable." I hear some of you say. But honestly, it's not as uncommon as you would think. You can find catnip on 11 squares on the map. I'd argue that Snake Lily the better rare plant. It only occupies 8 squares of them map, all of which are near the Mystic Colony. You can find at least one Catnip near every colony, but Snake Lily is only close to the Mystic territory, and is only available during Fall and Winter. Yes, some squares have more than one, but it's still a long ways away for most cats and might not be in store when you get there. It's also better because you can use it to fight.
Anyway, this was fun to think about. I don't think anything should be changed in the game of course, but it's funny that these groups of wild cats who are fighting to survive value catnip over healing herbs and food.

Sweets aren’t that good for you, but most people still like em. It’s gonna give you diabetes if you eat too much but people still eat a lot of them. I’d say this is comparable but sugar is rare-ish now. Catnip takes effect on most likely every cat and makes them high but snake lilies are reserved for fighters and some like Arthur, the honourable hates them.
Prey is essential for survival so if shops sold them for a high price no one will buy them, rather hunt themselves. There’s also a doctor for illness and wounds so there’s competition, as well as healing herbs being common. Catnip I think is considered a luxury, practically useless and rare but hey it feels good.
No logical reason to, but the cats aren’t all logical. Cue Arthur saying ditch ambushing, and cats are known to be stealth hunters.
