How long does it take for colonies to take back territory?

I kind of want to go for the Conqueror achievement, but the problem is... I like seeing the world map split evenly among the colonies. How long would it take for the other colonies to take back their allotted land from you after you've conquered it?

Depends on your difficulty level! If you set your game to V. Hard before you go to sleep every night (you can set it back to Normal/Hard/whatever you're playing on when you wake up), the other colonies will take the most land.
