this is a SHOCKER... i always thought of coco and ember as girls and also married because of untold tales and me self-projecting. i had no idea people though otherwise

i havent finished the main quest so i have NO idea who the custom colony cats are or why the forest guardian is a cat and not a tree but i know most of the main npcs!

okay so update i remembered that trees have genders depending on what pollen or nectar they produce or something but SOME species of plant dont have this because they reproduce asexually or are both male and female; eg strawberries are both male and female because one flower has both male pollen and female pollen

basically, the male trees will havve a ton of this pollen that makes female trees go ¨aaa!!¨ and then when they interact with the female pollen via bees,  the male pollen makes the female pollen begin growing pinecones or fruit or whatever. on a spiritual level, the forest guardian, a tree, would probably be a female tree because the guardian is the bearer of the people/forest; in a metaphorical sense, the female tree is growing birth to the life of the forest. if the female tree dies, the forest dies with her as she is producing all the life.

To be totally honest I'm into the idea of all the cats being agender since that seems to be the sort of canon interpretation and the most realistic. Something that always vaguely bothered me about Warriors is that I don't think cats, even anthropomorphic ones, would construct gender in the same way people do; Cattails seems to take that into account.

I feel like the player cat is gendered just because we're mostly making them self-inserts though. I'd be lying if I said I didn't see my cat Che as a male, but I still like the in-game ambiguity.
