Hello, I was just wondering what platform Cattails was made in. Does it use a specific engine or is it made from scratch? Just curious

Great question, we're using GameMaker Studio 1.4 to make Cattails.

Great question, we're using GameMaker Studio 1.4 to make Cattails. Oh awesome! I dabble in game making myself as a hobby, so these things interest me! I've been playing with the Construct 2 editor for some time, but lately it's run into some very obnoxious bugs and the development team seem to be moving on, so I'm starting to shop around again Thank you!

I'm afraid I don't have anything worth publishing yet, heh, I'm still very much in the "hobby" phase of things But I would love to do a pixel wolf game of some sort at some time-- I've always loved pixel games, and there was a really good 1994 wolf RPG called WOLF that I really love. Of course it's no longer in development and the studio disbanded long ago, but the gameplay still holds its own when it comes to being deep and complex. And then of course you guys are working on Cattails here, and proving that there's definitely a place for well developed pixel animal games even in today's world of HD graphics... it's just a dream I hope someday will come to fruition. Unfortunately I haven't quite mastered the art of pixel art myself, so we'll see if anything ever comes of it

jayzx535 , WOLF was such a great game! I agree, even for it's really old retro DOS platform, it has such a layer of complexity that surpasses the games of this generation. It's also reaalllllyyyy challenging, my goodness. The hunters, the weather, keeping the pack in check, not to mention caring for pups... it definitely takes time to master. If WOLF is one of your inspirations, I really can't wait to see what you can make yourself!

That's one thing I'd like to work with, hah, more difficulty customizations XD It's certainly eventful, but you can get really blocked in if too many hunters spawn, and the planes/helicopters are absolutely brutal. I've never even made it to the point of having pups o.o Heh, hopefully it'd live up to it-- right now the art is my biggest holdup lol. I'm not that good at pixel work

jayzx535I think the ability to come up with a great game concept trumps a lot of other things, such as art. You can always find a team of artists or someone willing to help you with the game, but creating original, pure ideas is something unique to one person only. Either way, practice makes perfect right?
