Good afternoon, Cattails community! Alpha v0.94 is now available through Steam! This patch includes numerous bug fixes and typo corrections, but most importantly it also features official Community Content API support for Windows only. I know a few of our most dedicated and eager players have already begun "modding" the game resource files, but now Cattails: Wildwood Story features a built-in mod loader, a better (encapsulated) approach to creating/distributing mods, and fully-featured documentation available on our website. Important: If you've already been modding your game, please reset your /gameresources folder to its default state and delete the "mods" directory in your Steam game installation path! Moving forward, the /mods folder will live at %LOCALAPPDATA%/Cattails_Wildwood_Story/mods (next to your savefiles and coat color files.) Official Community Content API documentation is available here and will be updated as the game progresses. It includes several example mods to help you jump right in! cattailsgame.com/Cattails%202%20Documentation/doc.htmlExisting mod files can fairly easily be restructured into their own, separated mod folders and distributed as .zip files. Once this has been done properly, you can redistribute the .zip and the end user can simply extract the contents to the %LOCALAPPDATA%/Cattails_Wildwood_Story/mods location on their computer and the mod will be ready for use by the game. No additional steps necessary! You can force your game to update to the latest version by opening Steam -> Library -> right-click "Cattails: Wildwood Story" -> Properties -> Local Files -> "Verify integrity of game files..."

Aha I was about to ask your opinion on how safe it is to use the unofficial mods people are making - I guess this answers that!
Thanks for all the work you do and for vibing w what the community is doing!
I've never modded before but this new feature has me feeling like it's possible for me to learn how!

I was wondering what that update was! Honestly I made this account as soon as I got the alpha in order to report bugs, but haven't personally come across any so far. Definitely not doing any modding any time soon, though; the most I ever considered was changing npc names (partially for thematic reasons, partially just to see if it'd work; I have no problem with the names they have normally and quite like them for regular playthroughs c: ), but that can wait for a more stable build in the far future :p
I also started making a Steam guide for gift preferences super early on, but stopped because I wasn't sure if any of the gift possibilities/options/preferences would seriously change in the future. I maaaaay have peeked at some code in regards to a certain *special* npc out of curiosity, and definitely was surprised with some of the flags I saw, hence why I started to wonder if any of that stuff would change in the future LOL ...Specifically, I wasn't expecting certain NPCs to be marriable and at least one apparently is/will be in the future once that feature is implemented ;p

YESSs I'm so excited to make/use community content, I've really wanted to get into modding so this is super exciting
Edit: Forgot to ask, is there a way to create custom markings, or would we need to do that through creating accessories? O:
