Dove Challenge - Progress Thread (2000 Doves Update)

This thread will probably ring a bell for some of you, and that's part of the point of this. In 2014, I filled up an entire screen in the game Warrior Cats Untold Tales with thrushes. That took me about 3 months.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, here is the screenshot from that:

I decided to redo it because I like a challenge, and I thought it would be fun to recreate something that was done five years ago. Except, this time I will be doing it in Cattails. Since I want to replicate this to the original project as closely as possible, I chose doves to be the choice of prey.

I'm nowhere near finished with it yet, but over the last few days I've made some good progress. At first I wanted to wait until I was all the way done to share any of this, but there's not much fun in that for the rest of you. Sharing the progress with the thrush challenge was part of what kept me going. I knew people were waiting to see the final result after so many progress threads.

I'm going to go ahead and share the first few screenshots of progress. There will be much more to come, as I have a long way to go. By the way, I promise that none of the doves are being edited into the screenshot. If I'm going to do this, then I am going to go all in and do it for real. Just like the first time.

In case anyone's wondering, I have rules for how this is going to work.

Rule number one: No taking any of the doves that are already down. Once they're down, they stay down.
Rule number two: Eating any doves at all is not allowed. Any dove you catch goes in the pile. If you're hungry, catch something else.
Rule number three: Always add the same amount for each trip. This is the easiest way to keep count of them. I figured the best way to stick to this was to only make trips to drop them off when the inventory is full of them. Since I have all the inventory upgrades, that means each time I go to drop them off, I'm carrying 60 doves.
Rule number four: Always add to the total immediately after you drop a new load off.
And, finally, rule number five: Save every night, every morning, right before dropping off more doves, and immediately after dropping them off.

I finally added an update to this! I wanted to wait a little longer to post the update, but I posted one anyway because I wanted people to know that the project didn't get scrapped.

At this point, with 760 doves, it's already almost getting to where I can't get all of it in one picture going across the top there. When it's all done (whenever that is), I'll probably end up making a YouTube video to show the whole thing.

I'll try to post more updates soon. It's just getting harder now because I don't want to post anything unless there's an obvious difference between the new update and the previous update.

New update! I felt like I had to share this one because I've officially caught 1,000 doves. That's right. There are 1,000 doves in the tile (Canyon Plains) now.

I have actually caught a fair amount of bluejays during this. You should see my stash of them so far (of the ones I didn't either sell or accidentally eat, that is). I've also caught lots of frogs and turtles along the way. My hunting area is an absolute mess because of this. Dead frogs, turtles, and bluejays everywhere. 😂

New update today! We're up to 1600 doves!

At the same time as I'm getting to post this update, I finally got the Expert of the Wild achievement for completing 10 full years in game. Finally got all 43 game achievements.


Also, in my above post I said that the area I've been hunting in is an absolute mess. Although it's been cleaned up a bit since this, here is something you can look at to get an idea of how messy the place is:

I cleaned it up and put everything into its own storage bin, and apparently I collected 44 frogs, 44 turtle shells, 12 bluejays, and 40 turtles

I don't have a screenshot to post for this update, but I just wanted to say that I am working on this challenge some more. I'm on a 2-week spring break, so I am expecting to post at least one update soon! I'm up to 1790 doves right now. Probably won't post a screenshot until I get at least 2000.

Also, tonight I realized that there was a small error in the total. I accidentally added 50 instead of 60 when keeping track early on, so the numbers starting from 520 are off by 10. As in, they should be 10 numbers higher than where they currently are. I'm going to fix that as soon as I submit this post.

For anyone curious, this is how I'm keeping track. You can see where I made the error there, too (it's right after where 350 is written):

And here's the update for 2000 doves! There are 2030 to be exact. I went over the milestone instead of stopping right on it because stopping right on it would've required bringing less than a full inventory's worth of doves to the drop off zone, and that's not something I want to do. I actually had to get two screenshots instead of one this time because I just couldn't fit it all in one.

Also, I had to clean the hunting area (The Fairywood) again because it was getting to where I couldn't pick up the doves without picking anything else up first. I counted new totals for frogs, turtles, turtle shells, and blue jays. These totals were: 100 frogs, 72 turtle shells, 67 turtles, and 20 blue jays! Had to sell the frogs, turtles, and the turtle shells because I was running out of storage space in the bins. Sold them all for 1,188 mews.

Anyway, that's it for this update. I hope to get around to posting more frequent updates, but no promises.
