Rainstar's gaze immediately shifted towards Hazelrunner as the warrior inched closer to the Shadowclan cat. Her brain immediately started analyzing what this was significant of, and she came to the conclusion that sshe must of been developing protectiveness towards the Shadowclan tom-cat; that was her conclusion. Definitely. It must be that.
She refocused as Hazelrunner mentioned that she had caught scent of Amberberry amidst a group of Shadowclan cats. "So they are coming on our side already...and...Amberberry is with them?" She watched Hazelrunner quietly, but when she saw how hard and firm her face was, she gave a hard sigh.
"Amberberry was wrong about...about what is right..." She murmured quietly. Amberberry had been so afraid of what could happen, just like she had been.
Shadowpaw's eyes widened a little. Was she saying she had been wrong too? Maybe she wouldn't have done the same thing Amberberry had, but Rainstar had been ready to throw him out. Was she pulling back from that?
Princess gave a long sigh. "Well, I guess that we'll see," She mumbled doubtfully.
He tried to stifle the sobs, but was only marginally successful. Pushing himself up, his legs a little wobbly, he turned his gaze to Wildberry. "I just wanted to protect my clan...the clans..." He mumbled sadly. "Nightstar is...if I'm all that Windclan has, Nightstar will win..."

Hazelrunner gave a very small nod of her head to the leader’s question. All she could really say for sure was that Amberberry had been with Shadowclan cats, not much more, but it was still worrying. Her expression was rather guarded towards Rainstar until she admitted that Amberberry was wrong. Her whiskers twitched for a moment.
“He was. He was wrong in a lot of ways.” Hazelrunner agreed outright, despite knowing that it was most likely Rainstar’s indirect way of saying that she was wrong. At least that’s what she thought. “I wished he’d realized that.” Her expression softened the tiniest bit. If Rainstar had finally realized that her actions hadn’t been right, then Hazelrunner, couldn’t hold it over her forever. “He was with Shadowclan on our side of the border and then crossed back over. If he’s working with them there’s a chance that our camp could be in jeopardy.” The young warrior couldn’t hide the worry from her voice. Her eyes flickered to Shadowpaw.
“You’ll never know until you try now will you?” The she-cat smiled as she trotted past the she-cat down the slope towards camp. Otterfur had already disappeared inside long before Wrenflight got to the entrance. “Watch out, you might snag your fur.” The Riverclan she-cat called over her shoulder before disappearing through the entrance herself. They’d have to see how the kittypet liked clan life outside of stories.
Wildberry sighed softly sitting up, but staying close to the deputy’s side. “We know Ravenfang. No one is faulting you for that.” She mewed softly wrapping her tail around his shoulders in sign of reassurance. Sprucestar stood up and lumbered into the clearing to shoo any cats that were gawking at the sight of the deputy in tears, Wildberry gave a grateful nod. “Windclan is lucky to have you, but we’ve been asking too much. You aren’t the only cat Windclan has. There are plenty of cats who are with us. I’m sorry we have been putting so much on your shoulders alone.”

Rainstar nodded slowly as Hazelrunner stated the risk that this posed to the camp. It was quite obvious to the leader, yet she said little right away, as she had been deposed as leader and didn't hold the true authority anymore to do anything.
Closing her eyes, she searched her mind, wandering about her life for wisdom from her friends, her mentors, her parents. They were gone now, but their words...those remained. Various guidances came to her, and they all were on the same theme: they needed to act before their camp was assaulted. With information from Amberberry, Windclan was at a giant disadvantage, and not acting would cost them dearly.
But...this was not within her power to do anymore. Opening her eyes, she shook her head slightly. "You are completely right. Yet, I am not the one with power here." There was the slightest drop of hopelessness in her voice. Even if she did have the authority...to face Nightstar...
"What in my mother's twitching whiskers is this?" The loud and rude call came from the entrance of the Windclan camp as the kittypet emerged from the entrance right after Wrenflight. She looked around, seeing a variety of coated cats, almost all looking underfed and incredibly depressed. "You call this a proper camp? A real campsite has actual food, and a warm fire!"
Ravenfang bitterly choked back a couple tears, finally preventing their continuation, and shook his head. "No, you see, this is my job. I'm deputy. This is supposed to be what I do. I'm meant to take this job eventually, when she is gone. But I've taken it, and I came up woefully short." He briefly noticed the Thunderclan leader shooing the gathered cats, the slightest pang of gratitude in his heart as he lamented his failures. "Why are Onestar, and Firestar, and Mistystar revered? Because they were able to take authority. Beyond that, they excelled at it. They led and protected their clan and they didn't crumple under the weight."

Hazelrunner was oblivious to the fact that her statement was common sense. She was too focused on the fact that they’re enemines might have insight now into their camp and know exactly where they are vulnerable. She perked up when Rainstar merely shook her head. Hazelrunner was rather taken a back by the leader’s hopeless tone when she spoke of her lack of power.
Her ears flattened a little. “The only cat who does have that power is a clan away.” She muttered lashing her tail on the dirt beside her. Looking away from Rainstar she sighed softly. “If you can’t do anything yourself, then do you have any advice for what we should do?” The young warrior’s voice showed clear desperation. The same thing that happened to Riverclan could happen to them if they didn’t do something. She practially jumped out of her pelt when she heard a strange cat’s voice ringing across camp.
Wrenflight had to duck her head as the she-cat started practically shouting only an inch or so from her ear. The whole of Windclan seemed to look out to see what the commotion was about. So much for coming into camp unnoticed. “That’s pretty rude for a guest to be saying.” The Riverclan cat insisted as she waved her tail, motioning for Princess to follow her. “Fire? Why in the name of Starclan would you want a fire in your camp? It would destroy everything.” Wrenflight threw a questioning look over her shoulder at the kittypet. A fire of all things, that sounded horrible.
Wildberry couldn’t help, but shake her head as he brushed off everything and put the blame squarely back on his shoulders. “Your job right now is to be deputy, not be leader and deputy at the same time. Firestar, Onestar, Mistystar, they had time to grow into their roles. Ravenfang you were asked to lead in the most dire times the clans have seen in a while. You need time.” The medicine cat flicked her tail, most likely holding back some slightly less understanding words of encouragement. “And you need to let go sometimes. Not everything needs to be put on your shoulders alone. I am a medicine and my job is supposed to be to help guide our clan and you have been keeping so closed off there is no way I can help. It’s not healthy to do.”

Shadowpaw was relieved to hear that Rainstar was on the same page as them, but he deflated as she simply said she didn't have the power to act. His ears twitched with some modicom of frustration at her hopeless tone. "Just because you are not the leader doesn't mean the clan doesn't respect you," He mumbled somewhat quietly, almost inaudibily, almost like he wasn't certain he was leaving his proper place by speaking to Rainstar this way. "Cats here will listen to your advice. If...if you don't think that, then...ask anyone..." He averted his gaze, hoping the cat wouldn't get angry at his words.
Rainstar's eyes turned to Shadowpaw again, widening with surprise at his call to her to act even if she felt she lacked actual authority. The tom-cat had never spoken to a superior like this, and certainly, he had not held such...well, there was wisdom in what he had said.
Her eyes eventually turned to the entrance of camp, as did Shadowpaw's, as the call came from the entrance of camp.
Princess' ears flattened as Wrenflight scolded her for what she had said, and giving a long sigh, she seemed to acqueise in the slightest sense. "You're right. Its rude to so brashly point out such things about my host's home..." She sighed, then tilted her head as Wrenflight voiced her horror at having a fire in the camp. "Not if you built a firepit! It holds it perfectly!"
Ravenfang's ears flattened as Wildberry criticized him for how closed off he had been making himself, and how he had taken absolutely everything onto himself and felt responsibility for absolutely every failure he had--instead of recognizing how unprepared he had been for this because of not having sufficient time as the deputy.
How many moons had it been? His life had gone blurry in the last several moons' events. Had it been Ten? Twelve? In the span of a cat's life, it wasn't that much to learn to be a leader. Since Dawnstar brought Leafkit to him, time had moved so quickly and he had been balancing so many responsibilities. The extra added ones now...
His gaze turned to Wildberry and he took in a deep breath. He had been holding everything in, on himself, only for himself to handle. He leaned forward, licking her cheek gently, some sort of affection. "I...you are...I know that you're right..." He pulled back rather quickly, knowing that the medicine cat wasn't one for outright signs of appreciation. "I...I don't know what to do now..." He murmured.

Hazelrunner stared in confusion at the plump she-cat waltzing into their camp with Wrenflight. Having strange cats in camp was the last thing they needed, but the she-cat didn’t seem to be particularly dangerous. Just soft. She then looked at Otterfur and Wrenflight who had appeared just ahead of her. The look on Otterfur’s face made her rather reluctant to ask just what in the name of Starclan was happening. Keeping a wary eye on the she-cat she addressed Rainstar briefly. “He’s right. This clan still has a lot of respect for you, Rainstar. A lot of them would follow you wherever you told them to go.” She mewed slowly with a soft sigh as she turned to look at the leader.
The Riverclan warrior looked unconvinced. “I’ll leave the fire building to twolegs.” Wrenflight mewed unceraintly as she looked this way and that way around camp. There were a lot of cats looking this way. .”Come on I’ll show you around.” She mewed turning towards the warrior and apprentince dens having to walk past the pitiful prey pile. Flattening her ears she shook her head before motioning towards the warrior den. “This is where our warriors stay.” Wrenflight explained shortly as she briefly jogged through the camp at a brisk pace.
Wildberry let out a loud sigh when he admitted that she was right. Finally, she able to make him see that he needed to let her help. The she-cat was clearly surprised at Ravenfang licking her cheek. Sighing she shook her head looking over the deputy for a moment before stepping forwards to touch her nose to his forehead. “For right now, eat and rest.” The medicine cat said sternly as she stepped away from the deputy looking around the Thunderclan camp.
Sprucestar was crouched low nearby as Aspenpaw was hovering close by. The leader was trying to look annoyed, but it was clear he was glad to be with his kit. “You need to delegate. Put a cat in charge of patrols and hunting.”

Quiet surrounded the she-cat. She bit her lip, doubt clouding her heart as the two cats voiced how certain they were about the position she held in the clan. Gazing back and forht between them, still processing her own surprise at Shadowpaw saying this, she gave a long and loud sigh. "Still, I...Ravenfang should be consulted about this..." she quietly murmure,d her face thoughtful, "even if I make the choice."
her eyes drifted to Hazelrunner. "Do you know where he is? Will you tell him that we need to discuss this? Together?"
Princess viewed the meager food pile, and gave out a whine of pain. "Nooooooo!! This is all you have?!?" Despite her high-and-mighty aura and a soft kittypet lifestyle, she sounded genuinely upset. "This is nowhere near enough for for you!"
He obeyed the first part of that command, voicing that he had left the last couple pieces he had caught near a pair of...trees. Hmm...that wasn't helpful. "Umm...I'll...go get the food..." he mumbled. Then eat. But, he certainly was not planning oin resting at this moment. he was needed now more than ever.
His gaze drifted for a moment towards Sprucestar. Was he actually okay and recovered, or just acting that way to save his pride? The leader certainly was trying to act normally, but Ravenfang felt a compulsion to help Thunderclan run despite the pride of their clan cats.

Hazelrunner sighed and softly nodding her head in understanding. She didn’t want to push Rainstar into making decisions that would undermine Ravenfang, but they needed to make a decision as quickly as possible. It was encouraging to see Rainstar wanting to make decisions along with Ravenfang. “I think I heard that he was in Thunderclan.” She quickly pushed herself back up to her paws. “I’ll find him.” Pivoting around she looked towards the entrance before glancing back towards Shadowpaw. She offered him a brief smile before she briskly moved towards the entrance of camp.
As she moved out of camp she briefly glanced towards the kittypet beside Wrenflight before quickly turning her head and disappearing through the entrance.
Frowning a little Wrenflight sighed looking down at the prey pile, or what was left of it. “It’s been a hard time for our clan. It’s bee a hard time for all the clans unfortunately.” The warrior admitted folding her ears back against her head. It was a painful thing to admit.
Sighing Wildberry shook her head. “No you are not going to go get them. If you keep putting it off you’ll never get to actually eat yourself.”” She insisted going to stand in front of the deputy to block his path out of camp.
Sprucestar very slowly got back to his paws, with a clear amount of effort. Still, he stood as tall as he could. “Aspenpaw take your sister and go get the prey.” The leader mewed to the apprentice before slowly making his way over to Ravenfang. “Ravenfang, these rabbits are too fat for me to eat on my own. Help me eat it.” The Thunderclan leader mewed slowly moving to pick up the rabbit that had been left at Wildberry’s paws.

Rainstar nodded, quietly settling from her standing posture into a more comfortable relaxed one. She watched as Hazelrunner exited the camp, the leader's own eyes drifting to the kittypet once more. Her ears twitched with irritation as she wondered why in Starclan this stranger was in their camp, when of all times, Shadowclan might be trying to sabotage their camp.
She stood up. "Follow me," there was a drip of annoyance in her voice which Shadowpaw probably assumed was because of him, but she didn't address it yet. Walking over to Wrenflight, she didn't wait for a greeting.
"Wrenflight. Otterfur. What in Starclan's name..."
The kittypet gave a loud gasp. "By my father's snout, are you all starving?!?" She ignored Rainstar as the leader approached, stunned by their eating conditions.
Shadowpaw followed behind Rainstar, gazing at the kittypet with a bit of confusion. This cat had a very strange scent to her, one that obviously did not hail from the clans. Was this a cat from the Twolegplace? How did she get here and why was she brought to camp?
His ears flattened back as the she-cat turned to him and another gasp came from her.
"This little boy is barely fed! I can see-" She stepped almost invasively close and leaned down to look at his belly, "every rib on his body! This life isn't right if this is how you survive!"
Shadowpaw's gaze drifted down towards his paws as the she-cat scolded him (and the warrior's life) for having his condition, as it was. Of course, she didn't know exactly what had happened in his life, but...
Ravenfang growled with annoyance as she shut him down even further, backed up by Sprucestar who told them to get the prey. "They don't even know..." He had buried the prey by...trees, and, well, the apprentices couldn't get it without knowing. Grumbling, he told them where he had buried it, or...tried to give them a vague idea. He certainly did not know this territory.

“A kittypet we found roaming around, Wrenfligth invited to tour camp.” The deputy hissed through clenched teeth. Otterfur’s pelt was prickling with annoyance for both she-cats. The kittypet was irritating beyond belief while Wrenflight was perfectly fine bringing strange cats into their camp. When Rainstar and Shadowpaw came up to confront the problem the kittypet ignored them again. His whiskers twitched with annoyance and the fur along his spine went up further watching her chide them for how they lived.
Wrenflight sighed when Rainstar came up to get a proper explanation. Princess didn’t seem to really pay much mind to her though. She more focused on looking at Shadowpaw and criticize their whole way of life. She did make some sense their clan had been destroyed and Shadowpaw had been put through horrible things because of the life they lived. Still she stepped forwards and nudged herself in between Princess and Shadowpaw. “You don’t know enough about us to say this is the wrong way to live.” She mewed softly, but firmly. “We are living the way our ancestors have lived. We are living the way we choose to live because it works for us. It is hard, but this is the life we chose. I wouldn’t insult you and your twoleg, but not all of us want to live that way.” Her whole tone was stern and honest as she stared from Princess then to Shadowpaw with a loud sigh.
Aspenpaw looked rather confused at Ravenfang’s explanation of where the prey was, but Blueweed, with a noticeable scar over her left eye, had already disappeared out of the entrance, leaving Aspenpaw to scramble after her. “My kits are perfectly capable enough to find buried rabbits.” Sprucestar said rather briskly as he laid down beside the rabbit. His large grey tail was swinging from side to side behind him, clearly waiting on the deputy to come and join him.
“You said we needed to talk, so let’s talk.” Sprucestar mewed motioning to the spot beside him. His eyes were already starting to get rather distant. Wildberry frowned waving him towards the leader as well.

Rainstar's glare turned to Wrenflight as soon as Otterfur ratted her out. It wasnt a forgiving glare--amidst the threat of Shadowclan this was not the time for them to be inviting strange kittypets into their camp.
Shadowpaw's ears were still flattened back as Wrenflight finally pushed Princess back slightly by inserting herself between them. He was grateful for it, as he didn't know how to deal with the sudden invasion of space that she had performed.
Princess' ears flattened back as Wrenflight said that she was in the wrong to judge their way of life so harshly. "Well...whatever. You shouldn't be eating so little. Why don't you come back with me? My twoleg, he does whatever I please, and he'll feed all of you if I demand it."
The deputy joined near Sprucestar, not taking any bites of the rabbit as he did so even though he had basically promised to do so to Wildberry. "Yes. We do." He quietly murmured, trying to reorient his brain space to being serious and tactical.
"You know that Shadowclan is becoming frightfully powerful." He murmured quietly. This was a delicate conversation. He couldn't make it sound like Thunderclan was an afterthought or sidekick here. "Nightstar has been doing terrible things within his own clan. We did not have any proof of this until recently. Nightstar's own son was brought to us, and he explained some of the horrors that have occurred in that camp." he paused, trying to gauge how Sprucestar was reacting to this.

Wrenflight took a step away from Shadowpaw. She was getting rather crowded herself with all the cats looking in her direction. Leave it to her to manage to make terrible decisions, it was all she was really good at these days. “This isn’t a problem you or your twoleg can fix. There are four clans that can function well as long as they are seprate. Windclan is struggling because there are evil cats around.” Wrenflight kept herself from mentioning the horrible things that Nightstar had done. Sighing defeated she slowly turned to Rainstar. “I’m sorry.” She flicked her tail with a sigh. She was completely deflated in every sense. Her tail drooping to the ground.
“Wrenflight you of all cats should know better. She needs to go now.” The Riverclan tom-cat barked at Wrenflight before stopping to glare at the kittypet. “We don’t know who she is talking to in the clans. It could be a Shadowclan cat for all we know.” He hissed not really seeming to care that he was hurling accusations at Princess.
Sprucestar huffed as Ravenfang stated the obvious fact that Shadowclan was only growing in power. “A blind mouse would know that. That is the reason I went to seek an alliance with Windclan.” The leader stated brushing over the fact he had come to Windclan basically asking for help. He wouldn’t admit it now certainly. Sprucestar let him speak, mostly because he was taking a bite from the rabbit before sliding it towards Ravenfang.
Licking the blood from his mouth he nodded his head slowly. “I’ve heard. I’ve also heard something similar is happening in what used to be Riverclan. We didn’t need Nightstar’s offspring to tell us that.” The leader seemed to be feeling well enough to be snide when referring to Shadowpaw. “Leaving things how they are will only give Nightstar exactly what he wants. We have to help each other.” The Thunderclan cat seemed somewhat reluctant to say it, but it needed to be said anyway, despite what his pride had to say about the matter.

Rainstar's glared was still on Wrenflight. The she-cat should know during a time like this that such a decision was neither her's to make nor intelligent. The kittypet needed to go, and immediately. Who knew what information she could already have garnered.
Shadowpaw glanced back at Princess. Wasn't Rainstar being a little harsh? If they looked at all outsiders with heavy suspicion, weren't they doomed to make more enemies? To prevent friendships? What if everyone had initially looked at him that way? If Hazelrunner had been suspicion about him? He would probably be back in Shadowclan, tortured by his father once more.
"We believe that this...this was organized." he whispered quietly to Sprucestar, eyeing around him to check for listeners. "This tainted prey. We think someone is..." He bit his lip. This was shaky territory. Sprucestar would not want to consider the idea that one of his proud warriors would spurn his or her clan. "Someone has to be working with Shadowclan."
He continued speaking before he could get indignant. "I don't know who it is, but this was too perfect...the piece you ate being tainted. We need to work together and prepare to assault Shadowclan...but we need to keep our planning to a select group." He tried moving on from the idea of the traitor quickly, trying to provide a solution instead of speculation.

Wrenflight felt like she was being ganged up on from the Windclan leader and Riverclan deputy. The glares from both cats made her shift rather nervously under their gaze. She didn’t get why they were still so closed off to cats because of the slim chance they might be working with Shadowclan. “I’ll escort her out of camp then.” Wrenflight frowned with an irritated flick of his tail. She slowly turned to look at Princess. “I’m sorry to get your hopes up.” Wrenflight frowned with a loud sigh.
“Princess?” A loud mew sounded from behind the group. Tiny little Applepaw was standing behind the group staring up at the kittypet with a bright smile on his face. The little apprentince came skipping up to her the same way she had earlier. He had met her in Riverclan’s travels to meet up with the Pelts. She and her human had been nice enough to give the starving Riverclan queens some of her kibble. He hadn’t seen her since then though. The little apprentince was more than happy to see the familiar face here in camp. “What are you doing here?” He mewed skidding to halt as he looked in confusion at the cats around her. He didn’t know what business Princess had with Windclan, still he was clearly bubbling with excitement to see her all the same.
“What?” The disbelief was echoed in his loud exclaimation. His tail was lashing from side to side in fury at the idea that one of his cats was responsible for all this. Narrowing he swept his eyes this way and that around the cats in camp. His eyes were blazing with anger. He didn’t want to believe it, but it was hard to ignore the fact that the prey he was eating happened to be poisoned frowning a little he stared down at the rabbit for a long moment. Drawing in several deep measured breaths he turned towards the deputy again.
”How many warriors do you think we would need to gather?” The leader whispered with a noticeable frown. If they had to gather trustworthy cats it would be hard to come up with that many trustworthy cats that were willing to charge right directly into Shadowclan territory. Of course he wouldn’t admit that if asked.

Shadowpaw looked at Princess, whos attention was switching between the different cats there. She looked equal parts surprised and offended as she was ordered out. "I can not, in good conscious, let you throw me out knowing you look like this! You are all absolutely starved!"
she stepped forward, looking at Shadowpaw. "Come with me! At least get some food! Good heavens above, I was never told how harsh a life you all lived..."
Shadowpaw eyes widened and he stepped back, stunned and unable to speak. Come get food? Wasn't that unacceptable? Princess pressed closer to him, making his cheeks go red and leaving him very uncomfrtable.
she opened her mouth again. "Just let me take care of you a little dear! Youre way too starved!"
Princess then turned around as she heard her name. Her eyes drifted up and down the tiny apprentice, taking a moment to recall before a smile lit up her face. "Appie?!?" Shock was clear in her voice, but she steped towards him now. "Oh it makes me happier than a fresh catnip to see you again!"
Ravenfang bit his lip for several tense seconds, almost seeming to draw blood from the spot as he did so. How many warriors? That sort of question was....well....
He slowly released a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding. "Sprucestar...we need every able-bodied warrior we can get." He let it out as factually as he could. It was blunt. And it wasn't inspiring or optimistic. But it was what they needed.
