Reference: feralfront.com/thread/2551375-warriors-forbidden-romance-thread-pafp/?pageNo=48So ive been thinking about how we can do this. i think we should have a conversation between Hazelrunner and Tawnyface to resolve that--I also think it would be good to play out the rescue of Sprucestar, because thats big stuff. After that i was thinking about a short timeskip? No more than five days? I was thinking it could help speed up Shadowpaw's training slightly, and Ravenfang can brood for awhile, Longshadow can get a bit better, etc. what do you think?

(Sure ) Hazelrunner slowed down a little in her approach when Tawnyface seemed to slow down the tiniest bit. She had a brief moment of hope that maybe she would talk before the she-cat loudly yelled for her go away. “What are you going to do then? Are you just going to tuck your tail between your legs and run? If you run you’re going to be hurting Shadowpaw and Longshadow. They need you here.” Shouting it into the wind for her to hear she paced after the she-cat. There was no way in Starclan she was letting her run away that easily, maybe Tawnyface wasn’t planning on leaving for good, but she didn’t know for sure. The windclan warrior was hoping that if she could provoke her maybe it would get her to turn around and talk with her for a bit. “Please. Running from things doesn’t mean they stop existing. Just humor me for a minute that’s all I ask.” Hazelrunner kept trying. Her long legs stretching out to catch up with the Shadowclan cat. Sometimes she was thankful for how much ground she could cover quickly. Otherwise, she might loose the other she-cat entirely. Wildberry pressed her ear to the massive grey tom’s chest. His breathing hadn’t gotten any better. It was only getting worse. She turned sharply to look out for Lavenderfur returning, only collide with a nervous Aspenpaw practially treading over her tail. “Out, out, out.” The she-cat’s fire went up on end as she seemed to scare the wits out of Aspenpaw who shuffled his way out of the den with his head down. Muttering a silent prayer to Starclan to give her strength, Wildberry went back to looking for anything useful there was no easy solution to this problem. They needed the yarrow as quickly as possible. Stepping over Sprucestar’s body she went to examine the ThunderClan medicine stores again. They were almost completely barren. The only things left were dried out leaves and poppy seeds. Still, she started to shift through the leaves desperately trying to find one that might do the trick and at least help a little.
Unforunately none of the leaves were what she needed. Her mind was reeling. She didn’t understand where all the herbs could have gone. Surely the ThunderClan Medicine cat wouldn’t be this neglectful to let their stores get this empty. Fighting back the bile rising in her throat she continued to monitor the leader as he heaved and wheezed violently.

It seemed like Hazelrunner had some understanding of Tawnyface's headspace, because she about whipped around at the accusation that she was simply turning tail and running away from the situation. She bared her teeth in preperation to screech a provocating insult back towards the she-cat, but Hazelrunner's tone quickly changed and her posture wasn't at all the threatening and ready-to-battle one she was accustomed to from her previous...former....other home? She bit her lip, quickly shelving the thought that she didnt know how to refer to Shadowclan. It wasn't relevant in this moment.
Her eyebrows narrowed and her teeth seemed anxious to snap at her in anger. "Spit it out, then."
He had been taking too long, and while Lavenderfur knew this, he could only move himself so quickly. He luckily had relative youth on his side, and despite having been in a sleepy haze not long ago, he was at attention now and repeating every word Wildberry had told him so as to not lose the descriptions.
He had scoured through at least a quarter of Thunderclan's land after a couple minutes, a couple minutes that he knew brought Sprucestar closer to another life lost. Giving a furious hiss, feeling that he was failing what he needed to do, the cat hurled himself even further through, ignoring what he knew to be the Shadowclan border.
It was about four minutes later when he came pelting back into the camp, a large mouthful of yarrow keeping him from breathing through his mouth. There had been a significant amount on Shadowclan's side of the border right now, and he was trying not to imagine why there was so much uncollected. Furthermore....why was there absolutely none in the whole stretch he had run?
In all this, he lost the accurate description of the other herb he needed, and simply resigned to bringing the yarrow back. If she desperately needed the other herb, she could tell him again and he'd go fight back out; he verbalized this to the medicine cat as soon as the yarrow was at her paws, then even took a few steps away, a knowing sign that she needed her space.
Leafpaw felt her heart hd been stepped on once more; only recently had they been speaking about their last incident, and he had lost it again. Was he sthat stressed? So stressed he didn't even want her near him? Was she just incapable of doing anything to help him feel better?
Her head spun as she absentmindedly stepped out of the way of other busy cats, trying to keep the devastation off of her face.

The medicine cat practially lunged forwards to grab the yarrow as soon as Lavenderfur reappeared. “Why did it take so long to find this? Yarrow shouldn’t be that hard to find growing here.” The medicine cat hissed through the leaves as she quickly turned her attention back to Sprucestar. The large tom was coughing and writhing in pain. With all precious time wasted the leader was already beginning to loose his second life. Whatever was causing all of this didn’t seem to be going away even with the leader loosing lives. The she-cat stood back her tail lashing violently. She was helpless to do anything more than watch it happen. Sprucestar went completely still for a heartbeat, Aspenpaw gasping silently behind her. “Lavenderfur, put Aspenpaw to use. Take all the prey from the prey pile and bury it as far away from camp as possible. We have to be under the assumption that all their prey is tainted.” Barking orders over her shoulder she stood rigid as she waited for the breath of life to come back to him.
There were a few more tense seconds before he gasped and his eyes opened the tiniest bit, showing how glassy and unfocused they were. After his first gasp of life the she-cat wasted no time in practially shoving the herb down in throat. Sprucestar struggled to try and sit up, only succeeding in a feeble attempt before falling back to the ground. “Chew it. Chew it and swallow it.” She barked loudly at the tom. The leader sputtered and spat as he slowly swallowed the herb. She leaping backwards the she-cat watched the contents of his stomach come spilling up. Scruching her nose she stepped around the mess and went to see to the leader. All she hoped now was that he had thrown up everything harmful.
Hazelrunner took a half step back when Tawnyface turned to face her directly. She probably was expecting a clawed swipe coming her way. She drew in a deep breath when she didn’t and instead just hissed at her to spit it out. It was a chance at least. She didn’t know the most about the Shadowclan warrior and she might not be able to convince her to stay, but she had to try. “If you leave, you’ll be throwing away everything you’ve done to make yourself better. You have gotten better. I’ve seen it myself. You have done a lot of good for this clan. Longshadow is doing better and he needs you now more then ever. Any cat could have gotten that prey. There was no way you could have known.” Hazelrunner paced in front of her to block a swift exit while still keeping her eyes locked with Tawnyface’s. To see if she could make her see that mistakes happen. The clans still needed her.
The young queen sat on the far side of camp, anxiously waiting for Lavenderfur to return. She watched both her kits laying out in the sun purring and giggling. They didn’t seem to have caught on to the tense atomsphere surrounding the camp. Speckleflower didn’t know for sure what a lot of the comotion was about, she just knew it wasn’t good. She watched as Ravenfang seemed to be shouting at Leafpaw before disappearing. The apprentice was left alone to wander around the bustling camp, looking like a ghost lost among the living. “Leafpaw! Can you come keep me company for a bit?” The queen called sweetly to her hoping she would. It looked like Leafpaw had a lot weighing her down.

There was a weary sigh. "I must of run half the...-There isnt...." he hissed quietly to himself. This wasn't the right time to defend how long he took. He was about to ask what the other herb looked like when she called to him and barked at him to clear their fresh-kill. He spun around and bounded out of the den. "Come on, come help me," Lavenderfur called for the spprentice. He needed something that would at least pull his thoughts directly from the lives being lost, but he wasnt sure clearing out prey would do it.
Tawnyface quietly watched the pacing she-cat as she spoke, trying to make Tawnyface see that anyone could have done this and that she was still needed here. Is that what she was doing? Leaving? She didn't come out here specifically with that intent, but...
The flat truth was that she was the one who brought Longshadow that piece of prey. She couldn't runnfrom or be talked out of that. She shook her head slowly, then quickly stopped as if she didn't want this to be seen. "You know, you can't beat them," She quickly shifted thr subject. "They...they fight dirty. They don't care about rules of honor and fairness and all that mouse-dung. Thats why they'll kill you, and your toy tom, and probably Longshadow too as old and grumpy as he is...if you don't change your tactics." It wasn't a necessarily new struggle to the clans. Hold to honor or fight like there isn't a tomorrow.
She heard a cat calling for her to come, and she felt compelled to ignore it as the only thing on her mind and heart was what Ravenfang had done. She didn't know if she could face another cat and smile and talk and laugh and such. Still, she knew an apprentice was to respond to a warrior's call. spShe turned to see, at the far side of camp, the queen who had called. Sighing quietly, she hoped the kits were asleep and slowly began padding towards her.

Wildberry laid her ear across the tom’s chest as he flopped back down in the nest breathing heavily. She moved around him, examining every inch of the tom. If he was still having an effects she needed to try and counteract them as soon as possible. His breath smelled rather foul from whatever had been in his system. After the ordeal he seemed somewhat better, but loosing two lives had clearly taken most of his energy out of him. Laying limply in the nest, his eyes only fluttered briefly before falling closed again. A tom that had always seemed strong to her, was lying there still looking as if he was struggling for life. Wildberry, in a moment of pity, took a moment to lick down some of his ruffled and matted fur. She sighed loudly to herself. It felt like there was no time to breath anymore. Cats falling ill or hurt left and right. Now this. This stunk of foul play. She knew this was Shadowclan’s doing. The most important question was how. She looked down at the mess left all over the den floor. Scrunching her nose she still had yet to find out exactly what was to blame to begin with...
Aspenpaw had parked himself right outside the medicine cat den, peering in with wide scared eyes watching anxiously. He nearly jumped out of his fur when Lavenderfur ordered for him to follow. Confusion flashed across his face quickly looking back towards his father and leader. “But, um...what if-alright.” The nervous little tom sputtered before folding his ears back against his head seeing that the warrior wasn’t really listening. Slowly standing himself he hestitantly followed after the Windclan cat.
Hazelrunner could have sworn that she caught the Shadowclan she-cat shook her head. Her tail lashed a little when she plainly stated that they were fighting a losing battle. “You sound very sure of the fact.” The Windclan she-cat’s frown only grew. She decided to ignore the jab about her relationship to Shadowpaw. That wasn’t what she had come after her for. She needed to convince her to be proactive. “I know.” She mummered her tail dropping a little at admitting to the fact she’d been thinking a lot about recently. “I don’t like that reality, but that’s the fact of the matter. Now more than ever the clans need your help. To make sure what happened to Longshadow doesn’t happen to any other cats.”
The Windclan queen sighed as Leafpaw slowly made her way over to her. “You seemed like you didn’t know where you should be. I find myself feeling the same way these days.” Speckleflower said softly as she looked down at her kits snoozing in the sun. She didn’t expect Leafpaw to make much conversation. Still, she wanted to give her chance to talk if she wanted to.

Lavenderfur hurried to the pile with the apprentice and began picking up three pieces (which left him stumbling from the weight and awkwardness of it). He couldn't speak with the prey covering his mouth, but he signaled with his tail to follow (though he was wobbling somewhat and the signal might have been unclear). He hurried outside of camp and readied to bound forward with the prey to bury it far from the camp.Tawnyface's jaw went slightly slack and she seemed taken off guard as Hazelrunner just...acknowledged what she said The blunt fact she had given being acknowledged and accepted so candidly...Hazelrunner was facing the truth of the situation with a bravery and bluntness that Tawnyface wasn't expecting from a Windclan cat.She bit her lip. Windclan needed her? "You...you realize I've been fighting, abusing....I've killed cause I was told to? Are you sure i'm the one that you need?" She scoffed quietly, almost laughing at the thought that she could be relied on to do something good. Despite what Longshadow was saying and what he might believe. She wasn't that good. She was mildly trying for the tom-cat, but Hazelrunner couldn't expect much from Tawnyface.Leafpaw bit her lip and approached closer, then assumed it was okay if she sat near to Speckleflower. "Yeah?" she quietly murmured. "Everything has....it feels like Starclan doesn't believe we deserve to be watched over anymore..." Something of her brokenheartedness dripped into this statement, creating what seemed to be a rather depressed and hopeless countenance which, despite her efforts, was bouncing off of her in waves. She wasn't good at covering it up. wildcharm

Aspenpaw scrambled to catch up with the warrior, who already was picking up two or three pieces of prey. He picked up all the prey he could fit in his mouth. Grunting softly to himself he lumbered after the tom towards the entrance. He was walking close to Lavenderfur, seeming certain that he was going to loose his balance before this was all over. Before they left camp he frowned when he heard a snicker. Straining to turn his head a little he caught a glimpse of his sister’s grey pelt disappearing into the the warrior’s den. Why was Blueweed laughing at a time like this? She didn’t seem half as worried about Sprucestar as he was.
Not watching just where his paws were going he stumbled over a tree root and was sent sprawling to the ground. Laying on the ground dazed for a moment he sighed to himself before he stood up and went to pick up all the prey he’d spilled. Scrambling to catch up with Lavenderfur he was panting by that time he added his to the pile of contaminated prey. “All of our prey.” Aspenpaw mew in disbelief frowned to himself as he began helping to dig out a hole to put it all in. They would have no prey left after this. Even if they did, there was no knowing what was safe and what had been tainted.
The words didn’t come easy, but it was something that needed to be said. Hazelrunner was almost pleasantly surprised to see the Shadowclan she-cat was caught off guard by her admitting it out loud. Something needed to change or they were going to be overtaken by Shadowclan, then it would be over for all of them.
“I’ve seen what you’ve done to other cats..” Hazelrunner drew in a deep breath the image of the tiny Windclan apprentince bleeding out in the moor. Violently shaking her head, blue eyes sparkling she stared straight at Tawnyface. “You were no better than any other of Nightstar’s followers. But, you’re not. You stuck around for some reason, whatever that maybe, and you have been helping this clan. I am sure you are one of the cats we still need.” She looked up to the grey clouds up above. “If we actually do come out of this on top. We’ll need good cats in Shadowclan. Lilyheart and Shadowpaw won’t be able to do it alone.”
The queen picked up on the hopelessness in her voice. For such a young cat she shouldn’t have to feel this hopeless and lost. Her eyes flashed to her kits, they’d probably have to deal with something similar, having to grow up quicker than they should have to do. “Yes it does doesn’t it? When did you feel like Starclan was with you?” Speckleflower questioned softly as she watched Cinderkit yawn and roll on to his side.

Lavenderfur did not seem to notice the snicker of Blueweed, but he did hear the apprentice tripping, and he quickly spun around and dropped the piece of prey he was dragging (gently so as not to bite into anything foul) with his teeth. He was stepping forward, ready to help the apprentice up, but Aspenpaw got up on his own and began lamenting the state of their fresh-kill.
He nodded silently in agreement, reaching back down to pick up the piece of prey. He wasn't much of an inspirational speaker, but before his jaws clasped the prey again he said "After this, Thunderclan and Windclan...we're going to have a talk. About all of this." He began walking alongside the apprentice again.
Tawnyface settled slowly into a sitting position, listening as Hazelrunner spoke. She found herself taken back to the same image as the Windclan cat---the poor Windclan kitten she had slaughtered. Something only the most depraved could be unshaken by. Even after the image followed more cats she had killed. Rogues. Kittypets. Just...for fun. It was easy to justify them as weaker and thus deserving of it. Longshadow had been trying to beat that out of her with his grumpiness since she came back with him.
Her eyes glazed over somewhat and her head tilted away from Hazelrunner. Memories were slowly traveling through her mind as the other she-cat finished speaking. There was a silence between the two of them for awhile, and it was obvious Tawnyface was thinking rather than waiting for the she-cat to say more.
"I didn't dislike Dawnstar, you know?" She quietly murmured. The words hung in the air for a few moments. "She was too nice, she always underevaluated threats to our safety, and by the rump of Starclan she was far too soft on that kit of her's," she shook her head briefly, "but there was something to her that Shadowclan was lacking. I remember feeling a twinge of wonder, that maybe...she would bring something new, a new order to the clan. When he killed her, I...I figured there wasn't any reason to try to fight back. That Nightstar was a natural order that can't be stopped. That a softheart can't live, lead, and succeed in our world."
Right now, it wasn't clear why or what was compelling Tawnyface to suddenly drop her guard and pour this emotion out to the Windclan she-cat who had been the target of her provocatory insults frequently. "Then, by Starclan's mockery, I discovered there's a whole clan of you. And you....function, somehow. A place where Shadowpaw can actually learn. I...I never believed he would. I was meaner to him when we were younger, you know? But as we grew he was just...more pathetic than anything else. I guess I pitied him."
After saying all of this, her eyes finally returned to Hazelrunner. "My heart doesn't have space for another cat, or even serious clan loyalty," she murmured quietly. "But if it did..." she took in a deep breath, holding it, exhaling it. "I'd want to give Shadowpaw a...some semblance of a chance." She stepped closer to Hazelrunner. "I don't know how long I'll be here. If Shadowclan will win or not. But I don't expect to be on the other side of all of that. So...I guess we will make a deal. I will help you and yours until it has past, and you...you give Shadowpaw that chance. You do anything you have to to make it happen."
Leafpaw's gaze held steady in Speckleflower's direction, trying to figure out what the she-cat was leading towards with this question. It seemed like a leading question, for sure, but Leafpaw didn't necessarily feel compelled to lie. She just wasn't sure where it was going.
Her mind drifted away from Ravenfang slightly and more towards the general state of affairs. "We are told always, from when we are kits, that Starclan watches over us, guides our paths, and leads us to our futures. That everything will turn out okay, and is a part of their plan."
She was speaking quietly, like she didn't want this overheard by the already demoralized camp. What she was saying was a thought she figured might be in the back of every cat's mind, and she didn't want to verbalize their thoughts too strongly or noticeably. "How can they be watching over us if they are letting this happen? All of this? Why wouldn't they stop such a savage cat? And if they are with us, why should we believe this path is right? Why do they think its okay to set us on this path? That fighting against this is...right, or fair, or okay. Why do they get to put us through this horror and this terror?"
She had been speaking for a long time without breathing, the thoughts pouring out of her in a wave. She began taking in quick breaths, folding her ears back in embarrassment while her eyes drifted towards the kits that Speckleflower was caring for. She hoped they were asleep in this moment.

UAspenpaw froze before picking up the prey. He hadn’t expected Lavenderfur to say anything in response. Blueweed and Sprucestar seemed to try and ignore him stating the obvious. So, it was a bit of surprise for the Windclan cat to acknowledge what he was saying. The fact that he brought up the two clan talking made the young tom noticeably deflate. Who would speak on Thunderclan’s behalf now? His father was in a terrible state and the deputy, Brackencall, had seemingly disappeared. “There’s hope then.” His voice was full of empty hope, but Brackencall had always told him it was better to feign hope than to fall into despair. So, he was trying. With a pause he slowly bent down to pick up the last of prey and walk beside the warrior.
It was a slow, long walk towards the border of territory. Aspenpaw was left with his own thoughts and worries about his father’s conditions. With his eyes downcast he almost bumped into Lavenderfur’s side. “Sorry.” He mewed softly through the mouthful of prey. He gave a loud sigh when they approached the scent markers and he could finally drop the prey, that was starting to make his jaw ache from carrying it. The prey dropped to ground sighing to himself. ”Now we can get rid of all of this.”
Shifting Hazelrunner watched the she-cat’s changing expression in the intervening silence. The Windclan cat didn’t know entirely how much of what she was trying to say would come across to Tawnyface. So intent on watching her features, her ears perked up when the Shadowclan cat broke the silence before she could herself. She listened quietly, only her tail tip twitching the tiniest bit. Uncertainty flashed across her face. Why she was sharing with Hazelrunner now was lost on her. Still, she was going to listen if Tawnyface was willing to open up.
Looking away she smiled when Tawnyface basically called her clan a bunch of softhearted fools. She hadn’t known Dawnstar well in life, but if she was anything like she was when they’d met in her dreams Hazelrunner could see why cats could put hope in her to just loose it all when Nightstar killed her. “Shadowpaw wasn’t pathetic, he has been stronger and more resilient than any cat I’ve ever met.” Hazelrunner drew in a deep breath and looked out towards the moor. “You should tell Shadowpaw all of this. It would be good for him to know.”
“We have a deal.” Tawnyface’s deal reminded the Windclan warrior again of her discussion with Dawnstar, to do everything in her power to help Shadowpaw. “I will do anything for Shadowpaw.” She mewed softly with a nod of her head. “I’m going to go back to camp. See how everyone is holding up.” Slowly she pushed herself to her feet and stretched her long limbs out in front of her. Exhaustion was clear in her eyes as she yawned softly. It seemed like she was doing a lot of worrying about those around her, they gave her plenty to worry about.
Speckleflower smiled sadly when she gave her the answer that she seemed to be expecting. “Being a mother has given me a slightly differnt persepective of Starclan.” Shaking her head softly she looked down at her kits. Silent for a moment she drew in a deep breath. “I love my kits and I when they were first born I was constant obsessing over where they were and wouldn’t leave theiir sides. They were so tiny and helpless. That got harder to do the older they got. The older they get the more I see that I can’t protect them forever. I will always be ther for them, but I have to step back soon and let them make their own decisions. I will always be there for them, but I can’t make their decisions for them. I can’t help but wonder if Starclan is doing something similar.” The queen explained softly as Cinderkit’s head perked up and yawned to look them both over before flopping back down on the ground“
