I finally updated this thread with a new video. I still haven't much time to record the kitten training video yet. I'd say that this one was a quicker video, but I don't know if I should because everything was actually recorded about a month ago. I just now got the time to edit it together. With the semester ending soon, I should be able to upload more frequently.

Falcon Development, would you mind stickying this thread? This way, I don't have to keep bumping it just to keep up with it. Also, I feel like it isn't really helping anybody if it's several pages back. I'd appreciate it.

I'm a little late, but I still wanted to post this.

Happy birthday to the Guide to Romance video! Out of all the other tutorials/guides I have done for Cattails, this is probably my favorite because of what had to be done to create it.

On February 13th, 2018 (in the evening), I came up with the idea to get this video out on Valentine's Day. It seemed like it was impossible it first because it was the evening before the holiday, and I had to start from scratch. Somehow I had to befriend, date, marry, and get kittens with a marriageable cat overnight. Along with that, I also had to record all the scenes that went in it, and I had to edit it all together, render the video, and put it up on YouTube. Somehow, I had to do all of that in time to get it up before Valentine's Day was over with.

From the second the idea came, I knew that it was going to take an all nighter. There was no way around it. Luckily, my classes for the 14th were cancelled, and staying up all night is/was a piece of cake, with or without trying. So that's what I did.

I started on a fresh save file on February 13th, at roughly 9PM. A lot of the gameplay itself is a bit fuzzy, but I remember choosing Pebble as my mate, and I remember catching a lot of rare stuff. I caught like four bluejays, three cardinals, a catfish, and a black firefly in that one gaming session. I might have been off with the numbers, but it was something crazy like that.

I finished everything I needed to record, everything from befriending to when the kittens were born, by 10am the morning of Valentine's Day. So, I played Cattails all night and well into the morning, from 9pm-10am. That's over 12 hours of gameplay straight, with no breaks aside from maybe a couple of minutes!

I was tired from the long night, so I slept for a few hours. Then, after I woke up, I edited the video, rendered it, and uploaded it to YouTube. It was late in the evening by the time I got it up, but I still managed to get it out before Valentine's Day was over.

So, in short, it was a long night and involved a single 12+ hour gaming session but I got it on YouTube on Valentine's Day just like I wanted.

Obviously, it made very it memorable. I said it was worth it a year ago, and I still say that now. I'd do it all again if the opportunity was provided.

Yes. I should really get back on top of making these tutorials. Since it's summer now, it should be easier to find the time to make them. If you have any tips for mining that you think should go in the video, let me know!

Also, I was wondering if maybe the mining tips should be split into two videos: one would be for the Canyon and Prairie mines and the other one would be for the Island mine.

For tips, I mostly know only the widely known ones (eg. Offensive active skills aoe breaks boulders without hunger drain) I do have some habits based on my experience, but it might vary from play style to play style. Spoiler for long post.

On Preparations
Bring more healing herbs than prey, starving may cause damage and slow your cat down, but healing herbs can take care of damage. I personally don’t find any problems with speed debuff. I bring 3-4 rows of rabbits and the rest are marigolds in a maxed inventory.

Prior to entering the mines, stuff your cat up to 150% hunger so you bring the most hunger value to the mines. You also get a speed boost so it’s great. Use a valerian once you head out too.

I like bringing rabbits since they’re common but very filling, in ‘third’ place after the ultra rares and freshwater bass. Filling about 54% from my observation. (Bass: 56% UR: 67%) Bass can be tricky to catch due to them being fish and requiring one to swim a bit after pouncing. URs are obviously not ideal for stockpiling to use in the mines.

On Skills
(My go-to active skills are Summon Allies, Heal Allies, Return Home, and Deep Cuts.)

Summon Allies and Heal Allies combo can distract bats for you, whether you want to run away and mine away or quickly take down the bats. Kittens are not recommended by me due to their tendency to keep close, dragging the alerted bats to your location and it sucks if they ‘die’.

Deep Cut does aoe damage overtime and breaks rocks without costing hunger. 2-4 uses can kill a bat at level 5.

Return Home is a fail-safe if you’re not sure about your skills or something goes really bad. Provided that you store food and herbs there, you can quickly heal up and get fed. Generally convenient too.

Lion’s Roar can be useful when you’re swarmed or chased by ghosts, leaving you alone to mine in peace, until the effect wears off.

Shield renders you untouchable so it’s good especially in the deeper levels where every corner has a swarm of bats. Saves you time and health when you normally have to kite. The time available at level 5 allows a cat with Fighting level 10 to kill a ghost without dodging and health loss.

Sprint can make you fast enough that you don’t get hit. Generally saves time, good for getting out of a swarm. Short cool down time is a bonus.

Pinecone Toss seems okay from description, lets you stay out range while attacking enemies, the cool down is also short.

Fighting skill and Foraging skill are best at max as foraging affects effectiveness of herbs. Fighting affects damage output and speed. Swimming may help in levels with puddles and pools, but a must for the island mines. Hunting is used to collect prey but doesn’t affect performance in the mines.

On What to Do in The Mines
It’s best to try ignoring bats unless you come for experience and Mews. They’re easily outran and don’t give any loot that’s useful in the mines. It’s a waste of time and as such hunger to me. Pick your battles, it’s not good to have a lot of health gone in the early levels already.

Go for the stairs in the early levels, there’s nothing good to find there. If you’re at the lower levels, it might be good to bring up the descend prompt but stay put to watch for glinting rocks. From what I remember, the prompt pauses the game but animations like water, fireflies, and treasure rocks still play.

Always kite your enemies, hit and dodge. It’s a bad idea to tank in all fights anyway, unless you have the shield skill activated.

After more than a year, I finally uploaded the kittens training guide! I never meant to take this long, but at least it's uploaded now.

I made other Cattails videos instead because those topics seemed to be more of a demand at the time. Right around when I said that was when the custom colony update came out, and in order to make your own colony you have to finish the main quest first. Because that's kind of a big thing, I thought it was much more important to go ahead and put out tutorials on how to finish the quest. Then, because some of the items to build your colony with are kind of expensive, I thought that people would care more to know about how to get mews quickly than how to mentor their kittens. So this video just kind of got pushed around because of those events.
