At first when I got on today my game was VERY laggy. That part may have been my computer or the game itself I'm not sure. But all of a sudden the entire game froze when I was trying to exit the game. I had to turn off my computer completely, and when it came back on I loaded cattails and the file I was playing on showed as an empty slot. Falcon please please PLEASE fix this if it is a glitch.

Hi Wolfheart, I'm sorry to hear that! Cattails doesn't touch the actual savefile while the game is running (except in the moment the file is loaded and in the moments that the file is saved), so I'm not sure how the game could have deleted; it sounds like your computer may be having some issues. Can I have you navigate to this directory and tell me if you see any files there? (Assuming you're using a Windows computer): %LOCALAPPDATA%/Cattails

I do have a windows computer, but sadly do not know how to get to that file thing. Also I had saved my game a few seconds before the game froze then spent about a minute waiting for the game to unfreeze before shutting down my computer. Does that affect anything or is this information irrelevant?

Hmm... Thanks, that's very useful info! Open your file explorer (looks like a file folder icon, it's the program used to browse My Documents and similar files.) Click the address bar at the top (where it shows which folder you're currently in) and it should highlight the whole bar for you. Delete what's there and type %LOCALAPPDATA%/Cattails then hit Enter. The file you arrive at should have a backup savefile that you can use to restore your progress! If you see a file named "Backup_Cattails_Data1.ini", just rename it to "Cattails_Data1.ini" and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the help but I tried this and it didn't work. Ehh. Started a new file so as long as it doesn't happen again it's alright. Thank you though

Hey Wolfheart, Sorry to hear that! Did you manage to get to the file directory? Were any files present in that folder? Did you find the Backup file? It would be helpful to know what steps you took and what worked/didn't work so that we can assist other players in the future. Thanks

I did find the directory (with my dads help) but renaming the file didn't work.

Did the file appear again in the load menu in Cattails when you renamed it? If it did not, likely it wasn't renamed properly. It has to be renamed to exactly "Cattails_Data1.ini" (or, if you have file extensions disabled, "Cattails_Data1")

It didn't appear, but there is the fact that I had already had a new save file in that place. Could that be why?

Yep, that's likely the problem! You can change the 1 to any number 1-5 to slot that file differently if you still have it
