Hey there! Got a bug to report?
This list was created with the intent of having one place to list all known issues with Cattails. By having one thread, it will be much easier to see what has been solved, hasn't been solved, and has already been discovered.
Note: Before commenting, please check if your bug has already been listed.
🐾 Preface
When you report a bug, you are doing so because you want the bug fixed. There is no point in swearing at the programmer or being deliberately unhelpful: it may be their fault and your problem, and you might be right to be angry with them, but the bug will get fixed faster if you help them by supplying all the information they need. Remember that the developers worked hard on this game, and criticizing them for their mistakes will only lower their morale.
People are behind the screen!
🐾 How to report a bug.
🐾 Be specific. If you can do the same thing two different ways, state which one you used. "I selected Load" might mean "I clicked on Load" or "I pressed Alt-L". Say which you did. Sometimes it matters.
🐾 Be verbose. Give more information rather than less. If you say too much, the programmer can ignore some of it. If you say too little, they have to come back and ask more questions. One bug report I received was a single sentence; every time I asked for more information, the reporter would reply with another single sentence. It took me several weeks to get a useful amount of information, because it turned up one short sentence at a time.
🐾 Be careful of pronouns. Don't use words like "it", or references like "the window", when it's unclear what they mean. Consider this: "I started Cattails. It put up a warning window. I tried to close it and it crashed." It isn't clear what the user tried to close. Did they try to close the warning window, or the whole of Cattails? It makes a difference. Instead, you could say "I started Cattails, which put up a warning window. I tried to close the warning window, and Cattails crashed." This is longer and more repetitive, but also clearer and less easy to misunderstand.
Read what you wrote. Read the report back to yourself, and see if you think it's clear. If you have listed a sequence of actions which should produce the failure, try following them yourself, to see if you missed a step.
🐾 Fatal Errors -
Have you experienced an issue that crashes the game, or makes the game unplayable? If so, please list your bug with the title Fatal Error.
🐾 Major Errors -
Cat falling through the ground? Can't drink or hunt? Issues with the game that allow one to play, but make it more difficult are listed as Major Errors.
🐾 Minor Errors -
Missing texture? Misspelled dialogue? Issues that can be overlooked, but ruin the aesthetic or minor parts of gameplay are listed as Minor Errors.
🐾 Fatal Errors -
- After opening the game and clicking the first save file, when I try to name my cat, the game freezes and doesn't respond, The second one works and I'm currently trying the over save file slots but for the first save file slot the game completely freezes and becomes unresponsive. NOTE: Worked the second time the game was played. Possible a one-time thing.
- I left my den in the Forest Colony and went to Western Field. I was hunting a squirrel close to the top of the map. just above the fenced garden, and before I pounced I activated Sprint. I sort of slid into the squirrel, and then both my sprite and the squirrel slid to the edge of the screen, which gave me the error popup. Note: Windows 10
- When switching to another window while moving your cat with WASD keyboard controls, the cat continues moving, and it's impossible to redirect the cat/stop the cat from moving.
🐾 Major Errors -
- ** Noted Multiple times. Framerate drops drastically when travelling to any "beach" area including Rivermouth + Delta. Note: Windows 8
- I noticed this on levels 81, 92, and 93 of the mole's cave (it possibly happens in others or could be random but this is where I noticed it).
Some of the bats are flying beyond the borders of the cave, outside the playable area. Initially the bats are hovering in their place, when the bats notice you they make that "zip" noise and the music changes. After the bats have noticed you, instead of flying towards my cat character, the bats fly outside the border of the cave. Once the bat is beyond the border of the cave, I can get as close to them as I like with my cat and the bats won't chase anymore. On level 81 there are two bats on the left hand side that do this, level 92 has one bat on the left, and level 93 has one bat also on the left. All of them fly beyond the cave border and can't be interacted with beyond that point.
- I've been playing Cattails on a PC with Windows 7 on it, my input is Japanese IME and my keyboard layout is JIS. When using keyboard controls, if I push any key that changes input from English to Japanese, the game no longer reads most of my input, even if I change the input back to English.
I don't know if any other keyboard layouts and input methods can create this same issue.
I found a work around where if you switch the input back and use Esc (which is the only key it seems to still read when this happens), once you close the menu input returns to normal.
🐾 Minor Errors -
- During the tutorial, on the "Open your inventory (Z), select the Goldenseal, then hold it," mission, there's a small visual error. If, after talking to Coco and accessing the mission, I immediately access my inventory and select the Goldenseal (as opposed to making any movements before opening my inventory), my cat appears turned to the right and the Goldenseal appears behind her.
- If I used Sprint to chase prey and I end up running on top of the prey and I stop, the prey gets stuck and I cannot kill it. The prey runs away when I move.
Note: Windows 10
- I selected at the beginning a white fur for my cat. As soon, as I could change the fur color, I changed it to my personal Color.
The Fur on the Cat changes, but in the minimap the icon is still the same as the first chosen fur.
- The water that surrounds mayor's den has a bug where if you walk right next to the stones but not on them you just walk on the water without swimming, you do have to be close to the stones but it is very easy to perform on command. Note: Macbook Air
- Ember has a grammar problem in this dialog box. had this happen to me yesterday but started a separate file to get this again.
they say "can I was" so I'm pretty sure the "can" shouldn't be there, it sounds odd to me at least
- When playing the game {Not in menu} minimizing the screen or clicking to a different tab {google etc..} makes the music start to glitch. What I can best compare it to is the sound of a glitching gameboy. Note: Windows 8
- Found another dialog mistake, Scout says "and I occurred to me" instead of "and it occurred to me" (at least I think that's how its suppose to be)
- Was in the mole's cave and a clawed rock turned into a mouse. When I killed the mouse, there was no prey drop. I've had three or four other mice that turned into a prey drop so I assume they all should?
Note: Windows 10
- Possibly, the only glitch I've seen a couple times is when I exit an area with a battle going on and come back I can make enemy cats disappear if they are in some perfect location on the edge of the screen. I sadly cannot figure out how to recreate it.
- Grey Squirrel: The body of a grey squirrel. This little guy is having a grey day.
Ticked Gray Color: A gray fur color with dark highlights for your cat.
