Another emergency, the young medicine cat thought to himself. His name was Ravenfeather. His mentor had died last moon, and the young medicine cat had been troubled ever since. They weren't ready to have the entire clan dependent on them yet. However, they had no choice.
Ravenfeather rushed outside, his black pelt a blur, and his blue eyes clouded with worry. In an instant, commotion was heard. His clanmates were fussing over a young calico she-cat named Mapleheart. Mapleheart was a young warrior who had recently graduated last moon.
He looked at the young cat. Her amber eyes were bleeding, and she was in panic. "Ravenfeather! Are you there?! Please help me, I can't see!" she shouted.
"Calm down," he soothed. "Everything will be okay." But will it be? he thought to himself. He shook his head. He rushed to his den and quickly gathered what he thought he would need. First, he soaked a bundle of moss in water. Next, he grabbed a bunch of herbs. Celandine, thyme, horsetail, poppy seeds, cobwebs, chervil, goldenrod, marigold, and comfrey. He didn't know if he would need all of them, but better to be safe than sorry. He carried everything out, and laid them out on the ground.
"Okay, hold still Mapleheart," he instructed. He first used the wet moss to clean up the blood. He was afraid to use it against her eyes though. What if I hurt her eyes? He took away the slightly blood-soaked moss. He picked up the celandine, and squeezed the plant firmly. He allowed the juice to trickle into the warrior's eyes, despite his worries. He had learned that celandine would help a cat with injured eyes. Mapleheart flinched a bit, since the juices stung, but she stayed in place.
Next, Ravenfeather took the thyme, "Chew on these," he instructed. "They'll calm you down." While Mapleheart was chewing, he gently applied a mix of cobwebs and horsetail to her eyes. Cobwebs to stop the bleeding, and horsetail to prevent infection. He then grabbed a few poppy seeds, since he knew the young warrior was in pain. "Eat these, they'll take away some of the pain." Mapleheart took the poppy seeds as well.
Ravenfeather picked up the leftover herbs he hadn't used. "Okay, now come with me. I want you to rest in my den," he said around the herbs. He then guided the young warrior to the medicine cat den, his den, while his clanmates watched in awe at how smoothly he worked.
He got Mapleheart to lay down in a moss nest, so that she could wait for her injuries to heal. Meanwhile, he put the excess herbs away, and disposed of the leftover items he had used.
End of story one. More will be posted.
