Name: Shadowheart Sex: Male Gender: Tom-cat Moons: 18 Clan: Shadowclan Physical description: A tom-cat physically on the small side, not exactly shorter than most but certainly below the average height. His pelt is one of jet blackness and serves as one of his only advantages--blending in with the darkness. History: Shadowheart has lived an unfulfilling life, mostly due to not sharing a likeness in personality to his clanmates. He is unambitious and lacks a drive for personal power, and this has been attributed, by his clanmates, as disfavor with Starclan and an unworthiness of respect. Though he has approached the age of ending his apprenticeship, he has not been allowed this due to his status in his clan. Personality: A lifetime of ridicule and disdain from his clanmates has not led him to being a very confident or successful apprentice. He constantly struggles from social awkwardness and anxiety, and is unable to stand up for himself or contribute meaningfully to conversation. He is lonely and constantly afraid of the disdain of his clanmates.

Name: Rainfeather Gender: She-cat Moons: 15 Description: Rainfeather is a light gray she-cat with blue eyes that are bright against her fur. She has sleek fur that assists her in swimming. She's very small for a warrior, she can still be mistaken for an apprentice at gatherings. History: Rainfeather grew up in a family that was deeply respected by her clan. Because of this, there was much expected of her. Her father never thought much of her accomplishments, but her mother was always very supportive. She still hasn't gotten over how her father left to go with another she-cat in ThunderClan, but she doesn't let anyone see it. Besides, that was a long time ago... Personality: She's highly competitive when it comes to swimming and hunting, finding herself to rise at the top in all of those things. She's quite popular in her Clan because of her competitive nature and her friendliness.

Shadowheart gave a quiet sigh as he approached at the heels of his clanmates. Why his leader let him come to the Gathering was beyond him; the whole clan certainly did not believe he deserved the honour. Nonetheless, the leader had said new warriors were obligated to attend many Gatherings to understand their enemies as best as they could. So, here he was. 'Studying his enemies.'
He crossed the long log to reach the gathering place after his clan had; leaving him behind, he was left to pad alone into the large clearing as the rest of his clan dispersed into their own groups, or to greet 'friends' from other clans. Certainly, they were simply taking the leader's orders seriously and spying on the clans.
If he were to speak openly, he would voice fears that what Nightstar was saying was suspicious. To spy on the other clans constantly, to treat them as constant enemies...he wished they didn't have to do that. He had thought the clans were meant to be at peace; at least, that is what his mother had taught him.
Sighing once more, he brought himself to a lone corner, not having the energy to pretend to be interested in the prey counts or herb supplies of other cats.

Rainfeather watched as ShadowClan came into the gathering, their dark pelts seeming to blend into each other. RiverClan had arrived first, so she had been there for awhile already. She watched in particular as one small tom wandered into a corner by himself, her blue eyes following his every movement. Something about him drew Rainfeather in. She wanted to talk with him, know about him, and be friends with him. She wasn't sure why she wanted too, but still rose to her paws. Her tail curled up in the air as she strode with confidence toward the male, but still managing to not make a scene with such posture. As she drew closer, she noticed he looked... what's the word? Tired? Yes, that's it. He looked tired, though the she-cat didn't know if he was physically worn out or weary of something. In her soft, kind voice she said to him, "Do you mind if I sit here?"

Shadowheart did not seem to initially notice the approaching she-cat, focused on gazing towards his Shadowclan clanmates. He seemed to be continuously scanning the mass of pelts, watching them for some unclear reason.
He jumped into the air a bit as he suddenly heard a voice close by, and he quickly turned to her, embarrassment clear on his face as he tried to lick down his now-ruffled fur.
"Uhh, y-yeah, that's-i-i mean...no, that's not...i don't m-mind...uhh..." he cast his gaze downwards towards his paws. Wow, talking was hard. No wonder he didn't do it much.

Rainfeather sat down next to him, radiating calmness. She felt bad for startling the tom and said, "I'm Rainfeather. I don't think I've seen you before. Can I ask your name?" Her blue eyes shined with kindness, and she tried to relax the tom with her own composure.
(Sorry for the short post. Don't worry, they won't be short like this in the future.)

(No worries, i know its tough at the start)
Shadowheart didn't raise his gaze from his paws for some time, not wanting to engage in a full conversation. The start sure had not been successful for him.
Still, she began asking him questions, and he lacked the indecency to ignore her outright. Biting his lip, he glanced back up to her. "Umm...I'm...Shadowheart. Of Shadow...clan. Which is...weird, I know."

"It's not weird. I think the name suits you." She said kindly, the tom already intriguing her with his timid nature. She wasn't about to just back away from his shyness, challenging herself to become friends with this tom. "So, what's ShadowClan like, if you don't mind me asking." She glanced around, noticing Redstrike, a warrior in her clan, staring at them. He quickly averted his gaze when he saw her, though.

Shadowheart gazed at her for a few moments, quietly wondering what she meant by this. Was that supposed to be some compliment? Or was it a sideways insult? The name suited him? Did she mean he had a shadowy heart? Cats were so confusing.
He blinked as she asked how things were going in Shadowclan. Nightstar's words echoed within his head--they are the enemy. Don't give anything to your enemy.
He blinked, conflicted about whether he was supposed to just brush the cat off and refuse to give any information. Is that what Nightstar truly wanted them to do? It seemed...mean.
Breathing in through his nostrils he shook his head. "Things are...fine...I guess...yeah." He chuckled nervously, demonstrating what an expert liar he was.

Rainfeather quickly said, "N-no! I'm sorry, I didn't mean-" She stopped herself, realizing for once in her life, she was tongue-tied. She glanced at him, a mixture of embarrassment and humor in her eyes. "Here, let me start over." She cleared her throat and said, "I'm Rainfeather, and you're Shadowheart. Things are fine in ShadowClan, and things are fine in RiverClan. Good?" She gave him a sideways smile.

He blinked at her, his eyes widening a little in confusion as she 'restarted' their conversation and ran through the introductory statements quickly, moving passed the awkwardness that they had been locked into. Biting his lip, he nodded slowly. "Okay..." He quietly murmured.
Gazing at her still, he wondered where this conversation was supposed to go now. Should he ask about the weather? No, too easy. "Umm...so...how's...prey?" He quietly mumbled, glancing towards the clump of Shadowclan cats, most of whom were completely avoiding social contact with the other clans.
he noticed, as well, that a couple of his clanmates seemed to be staring at him, cold, hard gazes draped over their facial features. His attention seemed to be pulled away from Rainfeather as he noticed this. He grew worried about what exactly had drawn their attention to him.

Rainfeather watched as Shadowheart glanced around before replying, "Well the fish are still quite abundant. How's the prey- actually.... What's your favorite thing to do?" Her head tilted sideways. She wasn't about to do small talk, she wanted to have a conversation. She could still feel the stare of Redstrike, but she chose to ignore it.

Shadowheart seemed fixated on the fact that his clanmates were staring at him, and he didn't seem to catch the she-cat's initial question, and sudden shift in the conversation.
His gaze snapped back to her as he suddenly realized she had been sending words at him, and he cleared his throat awkwardly. "Uhh, w-what? I...huh?" He shook his head to try and get his clanmates' stares out of his mind. He still felt their eyes burning into his side. "Oh, prey? Umm....uhh...its good, yeah. Great. Lots of...prey." He didn't seem to realize she had asked something different, perhaps hinting further at just how distracted the tom-cat was currently.
