Smallstep stared expectantly at the tom. After a moment, she watched as he picked up the mouse. She gave a small nod, offering the smallest smile. She did not want to push her luck and start at square one again. So, he decided to eat by herself. Her original plan was to invite the tom to eat with her. However, she felt as though that wasn't a good idea. Not yet, anyway. Perhaps someday she would feel daring enough to ask. The warrior looked at him in silence for a moment longer. Finally, she turned and padded in the opposite direction. She was heading for a nice patch of shade near the apprentice den. This was a spot that she often found herself laying in.

Mudwhisker watched her leave for a moment before walking over to Frostcloud, who was eating a thrush. She smiled brightly when he sat next to her. They sat in silence for awhile before Frostcloud said, "I'm still stunned you accepted that mouse from her." "What do you mean?" he asked. "Well, she and Yarrowtail are... fine with one another, and so I'm sure she can go in his den." "And?" "She could have poisoned that mouse somehow." Mudwhisker gave a small chuckle, "I'm sure she was just trying to get on my good side. Nothing more." "I'm simply looking out for you." He smiled at her, and although she had 'that look' on her face, the one that says 'you better listen to me', they began to go back to eating.

Smallstep gave a small sigh as she gazed up at the sky. The mouse sat in front of her extended paws, half eaten. Her tail flicked every now and then, sending a small cloud of dirt into the air. She longed to be out in the forest. Hunting had been her favorite thing to do in Oakclan. Now, well of course she wasn't trusted in the forest. Asking to hunt was something she had never thought of doing. The answer seemed rather obvious to her. Someone constantly guarding her would cause too much noise to properly hunt. Plus, they preferred making her do the more laboring tasks. She lowered her gaze and saw Mudwhisker sitting with Frostcloud. If there were to be a single problem in her plan, it was Frostcloud. The foolish tom was obviously attracted to her. He was practically drooling over her the day that she called him out for being out of her league. A small sigh escaped her as she rested her head on her paws. Adjustments to her plan would likely have to be made due to the Duskclan she-cat.

Mudwhisker continued to chatter for awhile with Frostcloud. A few warriors came up to them a few times to talk, but they were otherwise left alone. He cherished the time with her, the smile never leaving his fluffy face. He couldn't help but wonder, though, if Smallstep was right about her being out of his league. He kept trying to discard the thought, but it kept coming back. So, he excused himself to go check in with Breezestar. He had been meaning to talk with him for some time. He went over what he was going to say as he sauntered over to the black tom who, like usual, was sitting on top of his den.

Smallstep continued to watch from the corner of her eye. For the most part she stared off in different directions, still allowing herself enough of an angle to faintly see the two cats. She didn't want them to think she was attempting to eavesdrop. Truthfully, she wasn't. She was simply waiting for Frostcloud to leave. However, she still had no idea what she'd say even if the she-cat left. What else was there to talk about with the tom? He wasn't too much of a chatty cat. Well, towards her anyway. The warrior lifted her head off of her paws when she saw the curious Goldkit watching her. Goldkit dared to creep a little closer, tilting her head at the imprisoned cat. Smallstep made no effort to appear hostile. Frankly, she made no effort to even care or do anything. The kit could look, she didn't mind. In fact, the gaze the kit gave her was more curious and innocent compared to the cold stares from the others. Flicking her tail, the she-cat watched the kit, convinced that the kit would somehow land her in trouble.

(Just to let you know, Goldkit is a tom ) Mudwhisker dipped his head to Breezestar when he greeted him. Somehow, Breezestar managed to be cold and friendly at the same time. Taking a small breath, the fluffy tom said, "Hello, Breezestar. I-" The leader interrupted. He asked about Smallstep. "Well, I believe she's doing a bit better. She hardly speaks back. I believe you've broken her, as you call it." Breezestar nodded, a smile appearing on his face. Mudwhisker continued, "Anyways, I was wondering if you wanted to come and... talk? With the other warriors? I find it relaxing to speak with them after the day and-" Breezestar interrupted, "I know you mean well Mudwhisker, which is a reason why you are my deputy. But, you know why else I picked you? Because you give me ideas, great ones, but never question my ways. I don't expect that to change anytime soon. Understand?" Surprised, it took a moment before the deputy replied, "Yes, yes of course. You're right. I apologize for taking up your time with that... silly question." He dipped his head and walked away. He looked around and saw Goldkit by Smallstep. If Amberfall saw, she would certainly have a fit. In an attempt to save Smallstep from the drama, he quickly made his way there, saying, "Goldkit! I believe Flamekit was looking for you in the nursery."

(Ah, okay! I couldn't remember. XD That's why I just kept saying "the kit.")
Smallstep got an amused expression as she watched the kit. She had always enjoyed being near kits. Something about their overly curious and innocent nature had intrigued her. The thought of offering to play with him crossed her mind. In her opinion, he looked rather bored while watching her. However, she thought better of offering. A quick scan around the camp revealed that Amberfall wasn't around. Wherever she was, she likely had no idea that Goldkit was near the warrior. Something to consider lucky, she knew. The queen would surely throw a huge fit if she found out. As she scanned the clearing, her eyes locked onto Mudwhisker. The tom was making his way over to them. "Flamekit is so boring though!" the small kit protested to the deputy. "We never play anything except for hunter and prey!" Smallstep recalled hunter and prey being a game often played by the kits in Oakclan. She even used to play it herself when she was a kit. Apparently it was popular among the other clans as well. "I'm always made the prey! Playing prey is no fun." Goldkit cast his sad gaze down to his paws. The she-cat couldn't help but feel a little sorry for the little kit. Surely being one of the only two kits was no fun. All the apprentices and warriors were all about being serious, whereas a kit simply wants to have fun.

(XD It's no biggie)
Mudwhisker had a thoughtful look on his face before replying, "I'm sure Brambelfoot will play with you if you ask him." He had wanted to offer to play with the kit himself, but didn't want to make his father upset. After a bit more persuading, Goldkit reluctantly scuttled over to his father, who he saw stand up and begin to teach him a few fighting moves. Not an unusual sight in Duskclan. After a moment of watching, Mudwhisker turned back to Smallstep. "Goldkit is very, very curious. Flamekit would just rather know the basics and get on with things." It sounded a bit more like he was talking to himself instead of the warrior in front of him. A small smile appeared on his face when he thought of the kits. So different, yet so similar.

Smallstep remained silent as the little scene played out before her. Goldkit, although looking rather disappointed, eventually ran off towards his father. She watched him scamper off, an amused expression still on her face. Truthfully, it had always been a dream of hers to raise kits of her own. It was a dream she always was certain would come true. Yet, here she sat, a prisoner of a rival clan. Her amused expression disappeared, becoming a saddened one. A sigh escaped her as she looked away from the kit practicing fighting with his father. Her gaze now met Mudwhisker. She offered a small nod as he explained the two kits. "Kits sure are something special," she murmured, attempting to add to the conversation. After a moment of silence, she continued, "thank you. I'm certain Amberfall would have clawed my ears off if-" Her words were cut off by a thought. Why had he helped her out? About a week ago he would have purposefully told Amberfall that her kit was near the Oakclan warrior.

Mudwhisker didn't pay attention to the fact that Smallstep stopped herself from continuing her sentence. Instead, he said, "You're right, she would of, and I'm in no mood for drama today. Stay out of trouble." He offered a small smile, the kind you give to a cat at a gathering you don't really know but want to be polite to. As he turned around and walked away, he noticed Frostcloud staring at him. He quickly looked away, not wanting to deal with that at the moment. Flicking his tail, he trotted into the warriors den to take a nap.
(not sure what time it is so I'll just say nap xD)

(I was imagining midday or evening. We can skip to the next morning if you'd like though. I'll just say Smallstep fell asleep while thinking if you want to skip.) Smallstep was surprised at the advice Mudwhisker gave her. Stay out of trouble? Typically he caused all of the trouble for her. Then, even more shocking, the smile. It was just a small smile, but still. She tilted her head the slightest bit as she watched him padding away. How odd. Shrugging, she pushed herself to her paws. Goldkit and Bramblefoot were still practicing fighting together. Her eyes drifted off to the left when she felt a cold gaze piercing her. It was Frostcloud. A small shiver ran down her spine as she stared back at the other she-cat. How could she get rid of Frostcloud so that her plan had a slightly better chance at being successful? This was certainly something to think on. With that, she turned and began padding to her den. The silence of her den was becoming welcoming. Besides, it was a great place to think.

(yeah, let's timeskip )
Mudwhisker woke up in his nest, a few other warriors still sleeping around him. He quickly stretched and went into the clearing like he did every morning. He would assign patrols and then go see Smallstep. It was his day to watch her, after all. Yellow eyes scanned the clearing for any sign of life.

(I apologize for not managing to get a reply up this morning. Someone failed to wake me up today and I woke up ten minutes before school. x.x)
Smallstep managed to muster a yawn as she opened her eyes. She blinked away the blur that often occurred when she first awoke. She looked around her den, not really remembering that she had been in her den. Suppose I fell asleep while I was thinking yesterday, she thought. Shrugging, she pushed herself to her paws. The warrior took a moment to allow herself to wake up. She tended to be rather clumsy if she didn't do this. Once she was mostly awake, she emerged from her den. So far the clearly was fairly empty. Perhaps she had beaten everyone to waking up today. That, or the fact that she simply could not see every single den from here. Maybe both played a factor.

(x3 No problemo. Also, I think that Frostcloud not liking Smallstep makes him like Smallstep more xD)
Mudwhisker's head immediately turned when he heard paw steps. It was just Smallstep. Good. "Smallstep!" He called out to her, "Hurry up and eat so we can begin." His tail flicked as he grabbed a small mouse himself and started eating it. He wasn't that hungry anyways. He wondered what he should have the Oakclan cat do today. Maybe collect herbs for Yarrowtail since he didn't have an apprentice. Or just clean up the camp.

(True, true. It makes sense though if Frostcloud likes Mudwhisker. She wouldn't want him choosing someone else.) Smallstep flicked one of her ears when she heard her name. The familiar voice of Mudwhisker was followed by her gaze landing upon him. She gave a small nod to what he said. She honestly was not hungry at all, but decided she would make herself eat. Just a small portion, anyway. Taking her gaze off of the tom, she scanned the pile of prey. A small vole is what she grabbed. Her paws shuffled a small bit as she returned her gaze to Mudwhisker. Did she dare ask to eat with him? No, not quite yet. The she-cat put a bit of a distance between herself and the tom before settling down to eat. She took small yet quick bites. It only took a few bites for her to decide she had made herself eat enough. Pushing the rest away, she rose to her paws. "What am I doing today?" she questioned as she approached Mudwhisker again.
