"I have lived my life as best I could, not knowing its purpose, but drawn forward like a moth to a distant moon; and here at last, I discover a strange truth. That I am only a conduit, for a message that eludes my understanding."

It was a very cold night. Some say - it was the coldest night in years, but some simply call it - The Cold of the Century. Either way, following this frozen night came a very hot day, then night, as cold if not even colder than the last. This cycle has been going for some days now, and affected the enviroment greatly. Pines and spruces have managed to survive this extreme climate, but trees like oak, maples - this was far too extreme for them, and the trees constantly froze at night and almost burned at day. What caused this is unknown, but, surpisingly, there is a protected area - the Mossfield. The moss on the ground receives little snow and more frost, which melts during the hot day, providing a water source. The Great Firtrees have been experienced such extreme climate before and have survived, providing shade for Mossfield from the Sun's deadly shine. Unbelievengly, this part of the forest - or what was once the forest - is lush with growing plants, and food is almost everywhere. In this place, a group of cats thrives, feeding on the food and being strong to survive during these cold nights.
But this is not all - Humans and Twolegs have left ever since the beginning, and they have a good reason - to save their lives from a danger unknown to these cats. Not far lies a volcano - one that has gotten inactive in the past century. Or, at least, it seems so. This is not true, as the magma inside has shown very unexpected activity. The threat is the fact, a clear fact that caused the Humans and Twolegs to run - it can errupt very soon. Temperatures are far hotter here, and sometimes forest fires would rise.
One cat - Shimmering Star, the Foreteller of Fate - knowns this all, but, will the others listen to her?
And, will they be willing to follow the flame to a new age?

And, will they be willing to follow the flame to a new age?
Chapter 1
This was a very hot day, and Shimmering Star had been using the scarce spruce and pine trees to make her way without constantly feeling like she was burning. She was the last of them, the last Foreteller of Fate, the subspecies of the Foretellers depending on her to not go extinct. Her travels were exhausting, her mouth - dry, and her belly - roaring for food. As of now, the sun was setting, and the day was becoming cooler and cooler. She hoped to find somewhere to rest, and hopefully feed herself. Shimmering Star was getting weaker and weaker as the day was getting colder and colder. In a matter of minutes, the scarce rain had turned to snow, and Star did her best at catching the flakes to hopefully quench her thirst.
It wasn't long until she saw large fir trees in the distance. She had been told of this place as a tiny kitten - this was the Mossfield where everyone could be safe. Seeing the treetops Shimmering Star had heard of so many times gave her an energy boost. Ignoring her hunger or thirst, the gray she-cat started running to this place - the one zone she hoped to feel happy, to feel so untired and be fed.
The flakes had turned to a snowstorm by the time Shimmering could see the trunks of the fir trees. Now another scent could be picked up by Star's nose, but is soon was lost to the storm. The wind was crashing through the trees, threatening to keep Star. The gray she-cat's bright blue-and-green eyes widened at the sight of two cats approaching her. 'So this area was safe after all, if there was life over here.' Star thought and took shelter under the closest tree. These two cats were close to her by the time Shimmering Star realised - it wasn't as cold here, it was warmer.
The two cats stopped right by her, one being a she-cat, the other a tom. The tom was a ginger tabby with bright blue eyes, bearing a scar across one of them. His nose was a dark cherry colour, the same as his companion's. Her fur was a mottled white-and-gray, with large paws and pale green eyes. On her face was a black spot between the eyes. "Hello there. So you have come to live here, eh?" the tom meowed and sat down, beckoning the mottled she-cat to do the same. "Who even are you? I am Grayspeckles, and this is Flaming. What is your name, little one?" the she-cat asked in a sweet voice, her left ear twitching a little. "I'm Shimmering Star, a Foreteller of Fate." Shimmering meowed, and quickly added. "But you can call me Star for short." Her tail curled up around her paws, Star sat down, looking at them.
"A Foreteller of Fate? I have only heard about those. We have a Foreteller of Skies. He has told us plenty to start looking for these Foretellers." Grayspeckles meowed, rising up on her paws. "But come, Star. Aèril will be delighted to see another Foreteller." she meowed and turned, with Flaming and Star following her to an opening. Inside, it smelled like cats, and Star was very surprised to learn of the fact that there were many other cats. Her paws tingled with excitment - meeting another Foreteller seemed very nice. Who even was Aèril, and what was he like?
And, most importantly - was he avare of the fact they all were doomed to a volcano?
