I've only seen one other Cattails story, and I thought it'd be interesting to make my own. I'll try to update this as best as I can! Chapters might be short.
The cats
Prologue - The Beginning of a New Life
Snowshoe was riding in the large metal thing that the two-legged creatures used. She meowed desperately to get out, the pressure of the heat reaching her fur. The younger two-legged creature was making a commotion, making strange noises that sounded upset.
Before she knew it, the young white cat was aggressively tossed out on the side of a long, dark path. She had laid there for a while, hurt in the rain. Why did they toss her away? Did they really love her, or were they just heartless creatures? It felt even worse than being stuck in a shelter until those nasty creatures had adopted her. She tried nipping at her collar, not able to reach it.
"Mm, is someone there?" A voice meowed. Snowshoe had recognized it as another cat. Would they understand what had happened? Suddenly, a black and white cat had appeared from the bushes.
"Hello? Who are you?" the white female had asked.
"Do not fear, I am Coco. I live here in the forests, with the other three colonies?"
"Colonies?" Snowshoe was very confused by his words.
"Large groups of cats. There is the Forest Colony, who lives around here, the Mountain Colony, who live north, and the Mystic Colony, who live east. However, you may not know their ways." Coco explained, "They hunt their own prey, fight over borders, some swim in the waters, and forage various plants. I will take you to one of the colonies, but for the price of your collar. I only want it so I can trade it for mews, and living without a collar in the woods will help you." Snowshoe nodded in agreement. He sunk his teeth into her collar delicately, trying not to hurt her. It made a small jingle when it hit the grass.
The strange black and white cat explained how the colonies were. "I want to go to the Mystic Colony," Snowshoe had decided. He nodded, beckoning her with his tail. It was time for a new life, in the wild.
Chapter 1 - A new day
Snowshoe had woken up in her nest, the songs of birds awakening her. Maybe I should get to know these cats, she thought. After all, this is my new home.
The white cat padded out of her nest, in a tree stump. Scents mingled around her. When she padded out, a blue cat with different colored eyes was sitting by the young cat's nest. She had meowed, "Greeting, young one. I am Alisa, the leader of the Mystic Colony. Coco brought you here last night. I have told the colony that you would be arriving here. I hope you find a comfortable new life here, Snowshoe. Our shopkeeper is named Savannah, and our doctor is named Krampy. Savannah has a chestnut brown coat with many spots and markings, and Krampy is a silver cat with a bird mask. I live just south by the lake. Now, why don't you introduce yourself to the others? They've been expecting you." It was long, almost like a speech.
Snowshoe had spotted a black tom by the lake, with yellow eyes, like hers. She padded over to him. "Hello, kitten. Are you the new cat, Snowshoe?" he had asked. She had nodded in answer. "You look strange. I've almost never seen a cat like you! Anyways, I am Slip. It's nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too!" the young cat had mewed, "I'm going to introduce myself to the others, goodbye." She headed downwards, until she saw a silver cat, with a bird mask.
That must be Krampy. The female said to herself. "Hello, are you the doctor, Krampy? I'm Snowshoe, the new cat."
He replied with, "Yes indeed, kitten. I am Krampy, the doctor of the Mystic Colony. Don't worry, I am not a bird. I only thought so when I had a concussion once."
"Alisa told me you wore a bird mask, so I didn't think so. What's the mask for?"
"It's for protecting myself against acrid odors and miasma! Isn't that quite useful? I think Savannah has a mask I made once in my free time, for about ___ mews. (i was going to fill this in but i forgot to) " He had explained. Snowshoe nodded and padded off, as Krampy added, "Farewell! Remember to come to me if you need healing. Also, remember that I am not a bird!"
What a strange cat, the white feline added to herself, Anyways, I should talk to Savannah next. She noticed a brown tabby and ran over to speak.
"Are you the new cat, Snowshoe? Hi!" Savannah meowed, "I'm Savannah, the shopkeeper. I collect unique and rare items. Poke around whenever you like! I've always got some great goods to sell!" the young white cat padded away, going over to talk to the other brown cat who was strangely green.
"The clouds seem interesting today, don't they-" the green cat didn't finish her sentence. "O-oh! Are you the new cat? I-I'm Mossie. N-nice to meet you! I get n-nervous around strangers. Anyways, y-you can go greet the others! I-I don't mind."
"I wonder who that other tree stump belongs too. I'll go see!" Snowshoe muttered to herself. When she walked back around, she saw a silver tom, with mysterious red eyes and...horns?!
"Hm? You startled me! Oh, I don't think we've met. I'm Nil. Pleased to make your acquaintance. I'll look forward to talking to you soon! You should see what it's like in the wild!"
"What an interesting set of cats," the young white feline muttered, "Anyways, like Nil said, I should see what it's like. It's a brand new day, with a brand new life."
Chapter 2- Fights
Snowshoe padded along the wetland border. She had licked the red off her paws, trying not to think about the battle with the tan cat. She had applied goldenseal on her scratches, as Coco said.
Hunting was hard. She had only caught a toad but missed two fish, a frog, and a crow. Life in the wetland was hard. Suddenly, she was distracted by a purple butterfly. While she was trying to catch it, another orange cat had pounced on her, catching her off guard. By instinct, she nipped at the strange cat's throat. His scent smelled like a forest colony cat. He sprang up at the blow to his throat. "I won't go down that easily!" he hissed, attacking her again, this time near her flank, sinking his fangs into it.
Snowshoe yowled in pain as blood dripped from her own body. She had sprinted away, taking an herb with her. It smelled like something she recognized from her life with the two-legged creatures. Catnip! However, she only worried about getting away, getting back to the Mystic Colony, gathering all the plants she could.
Suddenly, a forest colony cat patrol appeared. The white cat sprinted away, almost on her last leg, until she fainted.
"Hello, kitten, are you awake?" a voice had meowed. It was the doctor, Krampy. "Do not worry, you do not have to pay!"
"P-pay?" Snowshoe had asked.
"You can't just go without a pay, right? I sold all your items, except one of each unique item. Here, take these spare eleven mews. With your five mews, that makes sixteen!" the doctor meowed, his eyes shining under the mask. "Anyways, why don't you eat that salmon?"
The young cat bit into the flesh of the fish. Its taste filled her with delight, making up for the terror she went through. Her belly no longer longed with hunger after she finished it.
"I say you stay in the den for a few days while you heal. Understand?" the silver tabby suggested. The female nodded, padding back to her den.
